Jennifer Ann Knox (Jenny) - passed away suddenly on 19th June 2018, wife of the late Peter Knox (retired Rampton Hospital nurse) and mum to Edward (Ed), 'France' Grandma to Ben & Lucy.
Jenny was the daughter of the late Colin Frank Burgess (motor mechanic garage owner) and Winsome Iris Burgess (nee Downing). Born 31st January 1943 at Lindrick Emergency Maternity Home, which is now a Golf Club House, it had been converted into an emergency hospital during the war. Jenny grew up with her brother John at Anston near Sheffield. After completing her education at Dinnington Comprehensive School, where friends included Eileen Kirby and Christine, Jenny learnt to drive and trained to be a nurse in Worksop, after passing her part I & II examinations in 1962 she became a registered nurse in 1964 and Staff Nurse on the Male Medical Ward at Kilton Hospital in 1965.
It was around this time in 1965 that she met her future husband Peter, their first meeting being at Kilton Hospital when he had escorted a patient from Rampton Hospital to the ward she was working on. Jenny & Pete were married on 16th September 1966 at the St James' Parish Church Anston, where she had previously, been baptised and confirmed. Jenny's cousins Anne Downing and Yvonne Burgess were her bridesmaids, the organist was their joint friend Jim Tuddenham of Woodbeck, with another friend Barry Wilkinson as bestman. After a honeymoon in Jersey, Jenny and Pete made their first home at 148 Woodbeck Estate, next to Rampton Hospital.
After a brief period working together at a boys school in Leeds, Jenny and Pete moved back to Woodbeck in 1968, Jenny worked for a short time at the staff kitchen at Rampton Hospital whilst she returned to nursing at Retford Hospital.
Moving several times around Woodbeck, from Retford Road to Rees Row, before settling on Burden Crescent, where Janny and Pete made many friends. Jenny enjoyed many holidays around the UK, especially Cornwall to visit her brother and his family. Holiday's abroad were another enjoyment, and Malta became her special place where she loved to visit regularly, with their friends the late Lily and Harry Beardsall. It was whilst in Malta on a three week holiday in 1980 that Jenny and Pete had contemplated moving there, however, on returning home she found out she was pregnant and her son Edward was born in 1981. Jenny left nursing to be a housewife, she loved geraniums and gardening, always had either a pet dog or cat and enjoyed a night out, in later life she enjoyed bingo and a few weekends away in Blackpool with friends. Jenny and Pete made many friends over the years, both on holiday and at Woodbeck, her son Edward remembers many holidays with Lily and Harry Beardsall, Jean Page and her friend Jean 'The Pair of Jeans!', and it was in the 1990's when Jenny returned many times to Malta at this time Jenny had many fun evenings out at bingo with her friend June. After her son left home and her parents passed away, Jenny and Pete enjoyed many lovely holidays to Malta, Tenerife and Christmas's in Northern Cyprus with her brother John and sister in law Hazel as well as several cruises.
After attending the wedding of her son in St Lucia, her grandson Ben was born the following year, where Jenny and Pete looked after Ben on Monday afternoons. In 2004 whilst visiting her brother in Cognac, France, Jenny and Pete made the decision to sell their home in Burden Crescent and move to Cognac. Sadly it was here that Pete passed away 18 months later. Following the birth of her granddaughter Lucy, made a visit to the UK in 2008.
After returning to live in the the UK in 2015 due to health reasons, Jenny became close again to her old friends Reta and Pete Sutton who were very kind to her, helping out with shopping and hospital visits as Jenny's health declined.
