All our love and condolences on the passing of Uncle Ron. Although geography and circumstance meant we didn't meet often, he was a kind and charismatic man and had me laughing each time we met. My thoughts are with Auntie Wendie, Nick and Beth on this sad day,
All our love,
Alison, David, Max and Sam xxxx

So sorry for your loss. Ron will be missed dearly by all who were close to him....family and friends alike. I befriended Nick and Beth in late high school/early college years in Houston, Texas and was fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Ron and be able to consider him a friend and role model/father figure in my life. He may be gone but not forgotten as his memory/legacy lives on in all of us that he influenced, of which there are many.

Many a man can only wish that they lived a life so rich,
Full of accomplishments, beautiful family and friends.
Until we meet again upon our journeys end.....
We'll turn up a pint or two (or six) and toast to a life well lived!

From Cider With Rosie - "Uncle Ray - prospector, dynamiter, buffalo fighter and builder of trans-continental railways". That was my Uncle Ron. Accompanied by the glamorous Wendie and the strangely accented Beth and Nick, he would sweep into my childhood home from far-flung places, bringing with him an air of excitement and intrigue. He would disappear as suddenly, leaving us gazing after him, breathless. Many years later I came to see that his energy was accompanied by a deep intelligence and a cutting perception. Circumstances have dictated that I have spent little time with Nick, but I know for sure that he has left behind in Beth all the qualities that made him such a remarkable man.

I knew Ron best through his daughter Beth, my business partner. Ron was a man of adventure, plain speaking and family. With Wendie he taught his children "home is where the heart is". Wherever the Elliott's chose to roam at the centre of his life was his family. Ron and I shared a love of a beautiful part of England, Wast Water in Cumbria not far from where he was born. When the dust has settled on this very sad moment in time the Elliott's are planning to go to Cumbria and take Ron home. In the words of William Wordsworth...

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Ron's daffodils were his family . Our love to Wendie, Beth and Nick and their families.

Ron was an original. One of the best, and he will be sorely missed. There was an energy to Ron that was hard to miss when in a room with him. A passion, a drive for adventure, a strong sense of right and wrong, of family values and of all else, of enjoying and getting the most fun out of life. I learnt a lot in the short time I got to share with him. I was looking forward to many more with him and it pains me to think I won't get that opportunity.

But his memory will live on, strong in those of us who were fortunate enough to know him. I feel compelled to live each day that little bit harder, roll with those punches a little more and always seek a time for a laugh and smile with his memory in my heart.

Rest well my friend, I will be raising a glass for you on Wednesday.

My father was a current day Indiana Jones only English. He travelled the world when the rest did not, from the sixties through to 2016. As I look through all his adventures from the frigid tundra of the Russian Arctic, down through the Hills of Assam, washing over the warm islands to Sumatra and spilling out into the Amazon. He lived his life as the men from long ago, as the Greek and Romans did. He used to tell me “Nick you only have one shot, take the biggest bite of the apple you can take’.
This was my father’s philosophy “carpe diem”.
After the turn of my father’s health and his passing. I spoke to a childhood friend that knew my father for many years. And I was explaining the events with a heavy heart and great sadness.
Through this conversation he told me of the great regard he held for dad and in a moment of clarity he said “Your father lived a life that people can only dream about” which sums up dad’s long adventure and has brought me peace.
Live your life, take your bite, keeping moving forward, No regrets.
I thank you for the love you gave me, I carry you with me.
Your son,
Nicholas Ronald Elliott

I remember thinking as a child that Uncle Ron was incredibly tall, like an oak tree. When I went to stay at his house in London, it was so different. I was welcomed with open arms and I remember feeling rather special. As a moody, awkward teenager that was a big deal. This incredible kindness and love, that has always come to both him and Wendie as naturally as breathing, has trickled down to his amazing children. I'm so sad that he's left us and I'll always remember him fondly. I'm sorry we can't be there on Wednesday. I love you guys so much and you're all in my prayers x x x

I first met Ron in 1971 in Dubai, UAE. It was my first experience working overseas but he made me feel at ease right away with his knowledge, wit and friendliness. 47 years later, it is impossible to believe that my good friend is gone. I loved him as a brother and I am devastated by his passing. Dearest Wendie, Nick and Beth, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there to offer comfort.

Beth Elliott wrote

The Dash by Linda Ellis
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on his tombstone
From the beginning to the end
He noted that first came his date of his birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time
That he spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved him
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?
