Dear Janet
I doubt if you will remember me but my husband, Malcolm, taught at Portchester School and we were friends of the Beddis family for about 50 years.
I was very sorry to see the announcement about your father in the Echo and I thought I would like to send you a message. We met you and your parents many times at Beddis family events and I always enjoyed talking to your father, especially about gardening, at which he excelled. I remember seeing wonderful produce he brought over for Dorothy. Please accept my condolences.
You I remember as a lovely bridesmaid at Gerald's first wedding- you had flowers scattered in you hair, I think. As Dorothy and her sisters were such a close family we heard all the news about all of you. Mal was an only child and I had just one sister so we felt very fortunate that Dorothy and Fred included us in so much of their family life. I still miss that.
Your boys are all grown up now with their own homes, I expect. My daughter, Katharine. lives in Eton, near Windsor still. My grand daughter, Bea, is doing A' Levels next year and hopes to go on to an Art college. My garden in Burton got too much for me so I moved to a flat in New Milton six years ago. I can't do without a garden altogether so I have some pots on a small terrace.
I still get a card from Gerald and Jane at Christmas - I expect their boys are married by now.
With very best wishes and thinking of you all.
Noreen Oliver
