Alan Corbett

Alan was born on Saturday, 29th September, 1951, at Marston Green hospital. He grew up in Wishaw with his mother (Alice) and his father (Norman) at the family home. As a child he was well loved by the all his family, in particular by his grandad mother, Florence Corbett.
His favourite toy was a Midland Red Bus and during most of Alans childhood days he always had a pet cat to look after. As a family they enjoyed memorable holidays, particularly in Great Yarmouth. As a teenager Alan enjoyed time with his friends at his local pub, the “Cock Inn” at Wishaw.

Alan was unbelievable at remembering dates of births, birthdays, anniversaries, events and past family events.
He also remarkably could when given a date in time, could instantly correctly state the actual day. We used to test him by giving him dates and he was correct every time. It was something all of us could not believe and still cant..?!

After his father passed away in 1999, Alan had to move from the family home and he was moved to a nice flat in Coleshill.

Although Alan lived a fair journey from his aunts, uncles and cousins it was always good to get together as a family and we have fond memories of family get togethers and birthday parties. Alan loved to spend Christmas time with the family and loved his Christmas dinners at his cousins houses with a few shandies!

Alan was always pleased to see us at his flat and always asked about everyone. Stephen, David, Philip and Vicky were regular visitors, Alan was always interested in the families and what everyone was up to, asking lots of questions.

Alan loved pop music, from the sixties to the eighties in particular and his music collection contained lots of CDs and vinyl records over this period.

When Alan lived on his own, he soon settled in to his new home and became friendly with his neighbours. Social Services were then involved with helping Alan with his every day needs, including his time spent at the Day Centre which he enjoyed very much. His carers took him on some very happy and memorable holidays, Alan particularly enjoyed his trips to Benidorm, Blackpool and Drayton Manor.

He enjoyed his job working at Asda in Minworth, where he could be seen on the dullest, coldest, rainiest days collecting and stacking the shopping trollies. He was so devoted, he always said a quick hello and was then keen to get back working.

Right up to Alan’s death, all of his carers looked after him so well and became his trusted friends, as well as his professional carers. Therefore, we would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Alan’s care over the years, including Janet Meer, Andrea, Kylea, Maria of Eden Futures and staff from Linden Care Home, where Alan spent his last few days.

Alan was a most caring, loving, polite and kind gentleman. We will miss him dearly.
