Rosalie Mella Cawthorne (11 Nov 1949 - 11 Mar 2018)

Gone, but not forgotten. Rosie, your talents, creative meals, endless chats, insights, art, struggles in life and activism. At times, the most supportive friend, a real big sister. We met at Dillons University Bookshop in 1982, and hung out together in Brixton's lively crowd. You shared stories of the riots in Railton Road, the impact on your friends, and the way police treated the community, including your friend, Ray. Where did it all go?

I still can't believe you're gone Rosalie. So many amazing & happy memories of when we met in Sydney, of travelling around New Zealand, & visiting you in London,. We always had so much fun especially at the sumptuous feasts you made. Your presence will stay with me forever: all the music that I learnt from you, the art that you were surrounded by, the personal style that was all you and no-one else - you were unique & I'll always so be grateful that our paths crossed.

Dear Ro, I will so miss your quirkiness, your laughter, your sense of fun and everything else about you - life will be just that little more grey when I come back to the UK - go well my friend x

I will always remember Ro’s contagious laugh, impish sense of humour, kindness, intellect and strength of character. She was someone I looked up to with some awe at her independence and uniquen ss when I was young. My heart goes out to Peg, Den, Linda, dear Uncle Phil and all her nieces and nephews. Sorry I can’t be there to pay my respects.
