In loving memory of Ann Detchon Smith who sadly passed away on 10th December 2014

Ann was a true gift to her parents, her family, to Sense, and all of those who met her.

She is loved and missed by so many.

Ann always will be an example to us all of someone who coped with adversity, with gentleness, calmness, and dignity and she leaves an enormous space in so many hearts.

This page is set up for all of you that live far and wide, who wish to post a message - let us know your thoughts, and your memories of Ann. Also - please see details here of the service due to take place for Ann - you will be most welcome.

So sad to hear the news from Uncle Trevor that Ann had passed away..... in the early days nobody ever thought you would live past 10 years but gosh how you proved them wrong........So loved by Joan, Trevor, Alison and David and your extended family of so many! From being a little girl when I sat with you we had our own little hand hold..3 squeezes and you squeezed back always....and smiled. You made so many people smile and especially made your mum and dad so proud....Rest in peace in the arms of your mother with the angels...Goodnight Godbless Jaine xxx

I was so sad to hear that Ann had passed away... I worked with Ann a number of years ago - first in her house in Peterborough and then in Spalding too. I then went on to work with her in the day services at Peterborough, then sadly no longer saw her anymore when we went our separate ways (i work now in Bourne Resource Centre). Ann taught me how patient a person with such difficulties can be and her beautiful smile and 'have a go' attitude made her a person to look up to, for so many people. I will always remember her independent ways and her little vocalisations and nuances.
My thoughts are with Ann's family and her extended family - all those who have had the pleasure to work with her over the years. Angie x

I first met Ann some years ago when I was a new recruit to Sense. I was privileged to work with Ann at a Resource Centre for a couple of years and remember her for her gentle and warm nature; her obvious enjoyment of practical pastimes such as cooking, growing things and making Christmas craft items; and her lovely smile. RIP, Ann, and condolences to family and support staff x

Ann, you leave me with many happy and lovely memories of working with you, although I have not seen you for a while we shared many good times at the old PRC & GRC, You laughed a lot! ...i'm sure at times you were laughing at me ...trying to make bits of IT work & trying to communicate with your fellow students and frequently failing!
Rest in Peace x

So sorry to hear this sad news. You will be missed Ann. I remember teaching you braille and sign language many years ago when we were based at Werrington (PRC). You then spent some wonderful years at HRC and I always remember you enjoying any music and dance sessions. You always had a smile on your face and were happy to try out any activity offered to you.

So sad to hear this news. I was Ann's first education tutor when she came to Sense. I was new to the organisation too and to the deafblind field and she taught me so much. Ann was a delight, she was always so patient, gentle and enthusiastic about the things we did together always giving her all despite the challenges she had to face. She will be missed hugely. My thoughts are with her family. Alex x
