In loving memory of Matilde Sarno, beloved wife, mother and grandmother who sadly passed away on 26th March 2018.

She was born in Malaga, Spain on 15th April 1939, living with her family until the age of 22 when she travelled to England in order to find work to help her parents back home. Whilst in England, she met Giuseppe, the love of her life who travelled from Italy also for work. Two years later on 4th August 1963, they were happily married.

Matilde was a kind, caring and beautiful woman whose sole purpose in life was to ensure the happiness of others. She was the wife of Giuseppe for 55 happy years, and a wonderful mother to Carlo, Marco, Carmen, Ricardo and Mario. She was blessed with six grandchildren; Francesca, Callum, Roman, Felipe, Bella and Katie, and she took great pleasure in watching them grow up. Her family also very much enjoyed her wonderful cooking, and she would always make sure you had something to eat from the moment you stepped through her front door. Her family was her life.

When Matilde was not taking care of her family, she volunteered in the community, helping churches, community centres, schools and nurseries in any way she could. She also would regularly collect money for charitable causes where she could.

Her hobbies included her love of her garden, which was always kept full of beautiful flowers, trees and a small patch where she grew so many fruit, vegetables and especially herbs over the years. She simply loved being in the outdoors.

Matilde also enjoyed cross-stitch, and her home was full of so many of her beautiful tapestries she made over the years. For many years you would always see her creating one beautiful tapestry after another, many of her own designs, and many donated to her children and grandchildren.

When she could she would return back to her home country of Spain and spend time with her family who she remained close to throughout the years and decades, and would love seeing all her nieces, nephews and other family. Even though she spent most of her life in England, she never forgot her love and passion for her birth place.

She led a simple life, but a life full of many stories, smiles, laughter and joy. To know Matilde was to love her, she would always see the best in everyone.

What can I say. A beautiful lady. A beautiful soul now enlightening another place. If it was not for this wonderful lady, I would not be blessed by being married to her daughter... my wonderful wife Carmen, and for that Matilde, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Her legacy will live on through her five children, and six grand-children, and many future great grand-children i'm sure. You may not be able to see her anymore, but you will always feel her within your hearts. The world is a worse place without her, but heaven has just inherited an angel. God bless.

Despite sadly never meeting this wonderful, warm, caring lady in person, I was blessed to receive her generosity regardless. Matilde and her lovely husband Giuseppe happily invited myself, my partner and our friends to stay in their Spanish apartment to enjoy the beauty of Huelin, Malaga. These trips led me to my favourite place in the world - Ronda <3 a gift I could never repay. Matilde's youngest son Mario is my dear friend and a living legacy of his mum's kind, selfless nature. It has been devastating to see the heartbreak he has experienced after losing his beautiful mum but she will always live on through the hearts, souls and memories of the loved ones who will always remember her. Rest in peace, Matilde xx

The moment I heard this sad news it hit me, it hit me really hard too. The memories the stories and how much mario spoke so well of his mum all came flooding to me immediately. I Took a deep breath and reached out to offer my support in any way I could to one of my very best friends in these sad and hard times mario sarno. The memories I have myself, visiting close to home in tamworth and over in Malaga. The first time i visited the lovely flat and was offered a Spanish omelette, this was before I even had chance to walk into the room and sit down. These little things will never ever be forgotten. My thoughts are with everyone in these sad times. I'm always here for any support. From my family to yours always xxxxx
