ROY DENNIS HOOPER
Passed away peacefully at the North Devon District Hospital on Tuesday 10th April 2018, aged 85. Loving husband to Joan and dearest dad to Anne & Colin. Sorely missed Dadal to all his grandchildren and great grandchild and much loved father-in-law, brother & uncle. Funeral service will be held at the North Devon Crematorium Aspen Chapel on Friday 11th May at 2.20pm. Family flowers only please. Roy loved Devon from the time he was evacuated here during the 2nd world war with his younger brother. He moved here after taking early retirement from BP and found his dream home in Chittlehamholt . He lived there with Joan, his wife for 20 years enjoying diy jobs and working in the large garden, but as time passed a smaller home was needed and he found his final home in Ford where he was happy and content during his long fight with dementia. Rest peacefully we love you still.

I met Roy and Joan, Anne and Colin, well over 50 years ago when we all moved into Hassocks Close and a close bond was struck between both generations of the Hoopers and Turners, resulting in so much fun over the years, and creating very many fond memories for us all, mum (Thelma) and I still giggle over her stories of Roy driving the barge on their fabulous canal holidays.
The Hassocks Close mob would often get together for a game of rounders in the park at the back of our houses and Roy sure did pack a punch with the rounders bat ..... he once hit the ball from the park right into the garden of "Mr. Sprouty" who lived in one of the bungalows at the bottom of the close.
Roy was the kindest of people and nothing was ever too much for him when it came to helping out friends. All three homes I've had in Somerset bear the mark of Roy's labours, helping me to settle in by putting up shelves, drilling holes for various 'stuff', curtain poles and so many other things. Roy and Joan lent me a DiY manual at one stage .... but it didn't work, Roy was always there to fix the holes I'd drilled in the wrong places! And when there was no DiY to keep us busy on their visits, Roy and Joan would get stuck into helping me with my garden, not just the dainty weed-pulling ... I mean the major bramble and nettle clearing! Dear Roy was never a one for sitting around, he always wanted to be helping with something. I have so very many happy memories of my visits to Roy and Joan in Devon, we would go out and about to so many interesting places and have such fun, and I'll miss Roy so very much, he really was one of life's True Stars.

To a dear brother in law who has always been there to help and advise over the years. He will be sorely by myself, Alex, Keith & Andrew but he is now at peace and released from the torment of his dementia. Our love and heartfelt thoughts go out to my dearest sister Joan and all the family.
