In loving memory of Donald Marston West who passed away peacefully on 31st March 2018 in the George Eliot Hospital, aged 85 years. Dearly loved husband of Marlene, much loved dad of Julie & Neal, father in law to Jon & Louise.
Donald was born in Barwell on 14th January 1933 to Margaret Ellen West (nee Stephenson, Nellie) & William West (Bill).
Donald married Marlene Painter on Valentines day 14th February 1953. They were happily married for 65 years.
He started work in the boot and shoe manufacturing industry in Barwell. Moving on to work for The Ratby Engineering Company as an Engineer for the next 31 years.
Donald was a great family man he loved sport, his grub, christmas, a picnic, ice cream, organising family outings and holidays.
He played football for Barwell Athletic, Earl Shilton Albion and Queens Park Imps and won many medals.
He was a liftetime Leicester City fan, a season ticket holder at Filbert Street in the Double Decker stand. He attended the FA Cup Final at Wembley in 1969, when Leicester City lost to Manchester City. He had the special priviledge to see Leicester City win the Premier league.
He loved golf and played at many local courses including links courses when he went on holiday.
He played Tennis locally.
He enjoyed watching and playing Snooker and Darts.
He swam at the Hinckley leisure centre and at the Pingles in Nuneaton.
He went on many Fishing trips with the family and could be relied on to carry the kit and eat the picnic. The outings included Shackerstone along the canal. The river Severn at Bridgnorth, Attenborough Gravel Pits and to various places on the River Trent.
Holidays were a special treat he took the family on many trips, to the Norfolk broads fishing, on a cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean to Cornwall, Devon, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Guernsey & the Isle of Mann.
He loved motoring and took the family to many parks for a picnic, Coombe Abbey, Wigsteed Park, Overstone, Sutton Park, Alton Towers and Drayton Manor.
His favourite local parks were Bradgate and Market Bosworth where he went daily to exercise the dogs, Daschunds, Sammy, Splash, Bill & Ben.
He will be greatly missed by the family, a loving happy person. xxxx
