In loving memory of Simon Wilkinson who sadly passed away on 11th March 2018

Simon was born on the 23rd September 1955, son to Arthur & Shiela and youngest of the three brothers to Martin & Guy. Simon lived in Sherwood Nottingham until he met Georgina they moved to Borrowash in the late seventies to set up their first family home.

In 1981 Simon's eldest was born Emma followed closely by Lucy 13 months later. He was Popa to six grandchildren Jack, George from Emma & Andy and then Livvy, Will, Bella & Ella from Lucy and Ian.

He was a kind and loving man who worked as a plumbing and heating engineer right up until he retired in 2007 due a hereditary musular condition called Myotonic Dystrophy.

He struggled with his mobility and his legs were a little wobbly but that didn't stop him leading a full and fun life looking after his grandchildren and keeping busy modifying the house and helping Georgina with the decision making .

Sadly in January this year he went into hospital for what seemed like a simple gall stone procedure unfortunately due to confusion and complications at the hospital he was there for 6 weeks sadly after 5 weeks he developed a chest infection which turned into phenumonia and died suddenly on the 11th March 2018.

Simon will be missed more than we can put into words he will leave a whole in all our hearts and no one will ever be able to replace him.

Thank you family and friends for donating to Simon's charity. This money will go to a charity which is conducting research in Nottingham and Scotland into Myotonic Dystrophy which was a 30 million to one chance of Simon having. Simon battled for several years to keep his mobility and suffered several critical illnesses during the last 18 years. For many years researchers have tried to find a cure for these conditions and recently they are getting closer to finding one. This condition has blighted our family and Emma , Lucy , Martin and I thank you with all our hearts for coming to support us on Friday to say a final goodbye to the love of my life, wonderful father and brother ,Simon who we will miss forever.xx

My most wonderful husband I have lost I wish you were still here with me. No one could ever have a kinder more loving husband and father. You worked so hard all your life to provde for us with a lovely home and life. You could do anything and transformed our house into a lovely home. You were the best father the girls could have had being fun playing lions with them when they were small and playing similar games with the grandchildren even though it was physically hard for you.
You were my best friend and soul mate who always made me laugh and see the funny side of life when things were at their worst. You always made me laugh even when things were hard and we shared lots of days like that. I loved you from when we first met and don't know how I will live without you. You were my first love and you were my world.
You would say to me that if I wanted something you wanted it and as long as we could afford it that was fine. We never fell out ...you never complained or moaned about anything ...we just bumped along. You were so loving and affectionate... no woman could have asked for more or had a more wonderful husband .
You were my world and against all odds I have lost you too soon and this time I just could not bring you home with me where you belong.
You survived so many serious illnesses and I never thought this would be the end due to a gall stone.
My heart is broken and I'll miss you forever my love. ...I am lost without you Simon and wish you were still with me now and I'll hold you close in my heart until we meet again.❤

Simon, always remembered as a brave and fearless man who always put his family first. We all did so many things together - all the brothers and their partners that later became wives, as we were growing into becoming slightly mature adults! I remember those days with a smile and a warm heart. Guy will be pleased to see his brother again and you will both never be forgotten. You will live on forever in your children and grandchildren, but meanwhile we will miss you xx

We will always remember Simon with great fondness for his kindness and his great dry sense of humour, he helped us out on many occasions with our plumbing issues and we often shared laughter while he coped with us !! It was a always pleasure to be in his company, a gentleman and friend. We know that Georgina, Emma, Lucy, Martin and his Grandchildren are going to miss him dreadfully but will find comfort in the wonderful memories they have of him.
Rest in Peace Simon and thank you for your friendship Gordon Amanda and family xx

  • Thank you my dear family and friends for all your kind words and thoughts. Emma, Lucy, Martin and I thank you also for your kind donations which will go to a charity which funds research into Myotonic Dystrophy. This is a genetic muscle wasting disease which is rare but hopefully it will enable scientists to eventually find a cure into this condition which has blighted our family and taken my lovely Simon away from me. Thank you so much.xx

John & Jill Rowland donated £20 in memory of Simon

Simon was a good friend, neighbour and plumber to us! He came to our rescue on many occasions, once one Friday evening comes to mind when the ‘one who should be obeyed’ decided that the skirting needed to be taken off before she started decorating..... needless to say who can you call upon when there’s water spurting out of the wall at 9pm?
Simon, as soon as he had finished his shower, dried and dressed, appeared at our door and within minutes all was well. However, as he left us his parting comment to the wife was “Jill, why carn’t you do what everyone else does on a Friday evening, relax and chill out after a week at work!”
What a lovely man, we are all going to miss him.
