Dear Viv and Family,
I am writing to you to express my sincere condolences over Ian’s passing, which I was so saddened to hear about. I was hoping to attend the service, but unfortunately my travel and work schedule has prevented me from returning to England this week.
I have a lot of fond memories of Ian, and although we didn’t see each other very often, every time we were together it was such a special time, memories that I am sure will last forever.
He was always so kind, and so cheerful about whatever was going on in life and so interested in what was going on with our family. I remember seeing you and Ian and the kids at Mudeford, years and years ago, and sharing a fabulous evening with him and Dave G and Dave’s house, which he so kindly arranged.
I remember always chatting to him when you would all go out with mum and dad, and again most recently at Mums 70th birthday.
Whenever I would see him, it was like we had seen each other every month, such was his warmth, his genuine interest in other people, and simply being just a brilliant bloke.
I will miss him and my thoughts are with you and your family today. May time heal the grief. I am sure that with time the many fabulous memories will replace the sadness, and the smiles replace the tears, and I hope that starts for you all today.
Although I am thousands of miles away, I will take a moment today to say my own little goodbye and manage some smiles for him.
