In loving memory of Ronald Andrew Scott (Scotty) who sadly passed away on 15th February 2018

Born in Glasgow in Dec 1935 , brother to Jim and Lena, he joined the Merchant Navy, travelled the world meeting new and interesting people. Joined the Royal Air Force and again enjoyed seeing the world and travelling with his family. A businessman, he ran a vending machine company, was a successful chocolate maker and Public House Landlord. He campaigned for and achieved the first National Memorial to the men and women of Bomber Command with the Ledger Stone in Lincoln Cathedral in 2006. A published poet, thinker and letter writer to the press - there was always some wrong or injustice he needed to right.
A principled man and father who will be greatly missed.

Long time ago, 1959, we were friends in the RAF as officer cadets at South Cerney. I was a bit younger than Ron and he was a man of the world having been in the merchant navy. He helped me grow up. We enjoyed several good meals at the Black Tulip in Cheltenham. Wish I had kept in touch - my memory is of a decent human being.

  • This is a poem written by Scotty inspired, I think, from his interaction with surviving veterans and his sense of injustice at how the survivors have been treated since the end of the War.
