In loving memory of Ella Florence Osborne who died peacefully on 6th February 2018 in her 97th year. Wife, Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt, Great Aunt. When she was born, her elder sister, Molly, couldn't pronounce Ella properly and called her (Baby) Bunty, a name Ella was so called for many years.

Born in Sheffield 27th March 1921, Ella was the younger daughter of Irene and William Mackley. Went to Intake Primary school and later Abbeydale Secondary School. She trained as a Medical Secretary, working at prestigious establishments like Sheffield University. The family lived in Sheffield during WWII, enduring frequent bombing raids. Bunty was conscripted into the WAAF and after training became a Plotter with Fighter Command based in Northern Ireland and other [secret] locations.

Her parents moved to Bridlington in 1947 and started their guest house business. Mr & Mrs Osborne from Lincolnshire became regular visitors, driven over by their son Eddie. Relationship with Bunty and Eddie grew and blossomed until on 20 November 1948 they married in Bridlington.

Daughters Kathleen and Susan completed the family and they lived an idyllic life in a most beautiful village Some time after her daughters started secondary school, Ella returned to being a Medical Secretary at Louth County Hospital, working for eminent Consultants and Surgeons until she retired at 65 years old.

Their retirement saw Eddie and Ella travel widely with their dear friends where they explored many places in Europe and Scandinavia as well as nearer to home, England, Scotland and Wales. Not forgetting of course the trips to the antipodes three times to visit Susan and Hans.

Ella has enjoyed good health despite having a plethora of illnesses. She was widowed in 2011 when Eddie died at the age of 91.

She loved being at home; her garden so lovingly created by Eddie. She spent many happy hours doing crosswords and puzzles, and of course the Sunday Express crossword!

An addict of humbugs despite having Type II Diabetes, she also enjoyed a Cornetto almost every day. As her body started to fail, her breathing became so difficult that she needed oxygen 24 hours a day. Her eyesight failed slowly but surely , which made it increasingly difficult for Ella to do puzzles.

Ella was hospitalised in November 2017 for 8 weeks to get her breathing under control. She spent a short time living at The Wolds Care Centre; she remarked how caring and attentive were the staff and she enjoyed the food too despite claiming she didn't have much of an appetite. A chest infection sent Ella to her bed from where she was cared for with such devotion and humility. She deteriorated quickly and slipped away in the early hours of Tuesday 6th February 2018.

Join family and friends to celebrate Ella's life at Alford Crematorium on Wednesday 28th February at noon.

  • Her Great Grandson, Luke, loaned her one of his favourite rabbits to her to keep her company after Great Grandpa died.
