In loving memory of Douglas 'Doug' Brian Gregory who sadly passed away on 3rd February 2018.
Douglas was born to Dorothy and Arthur Gregory in the Warwickshire village of Long Lawford, near Rugby on 20th November 1929, he was an only child. Doug later moved to St Neots and started an electrical apprenticeship in Eaton Socon. he completed his national service with the Corps of Royal and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers - REME. He served much of this in West Germany as a radio engineer.
Doug married Joyce Stamford in the parish church of St Mary the Virgin in St Neots on the 6th June 1953. They had three children Susan, Sandra and Peter. Doug and Joyce became grandparents to Rebecca, Francine, Melissa, Jonathan and Ben and great grandparents to Isla and Ava.
In the sixties Doug worked as a television engineer, then ran a post office with Joyce in Wooten, near Oxford in the seventies before finally settling in Market Stainton, Lincolnshire to run the Milk and Honey shop and dairy.
He then retired, built a bungalow by himself in his sixties, started swimming lessons in his seventies (gaining his 10m swimming badge) and trekked across Thailand in his eighties with his son Pete and his wife Kum.
He loved jazz, making and fixing things in his workshed, computers/new technology and helping out his family, friends and neighbours with anything that needed repairing. One of his greatest achievements was building a boat with his friends whilst living in Eaton Socon, which subsequently sailed across the English Channel. Always with a project on the go, he just completed his garden shed when unfortunately he was diagnosed with inoperable brain lymphoma. He passed away peacefully 3rd February 2018.
May his memory live on as an inspiration to us all. Sending love to you up in heaven Granddad xxxxx
