In loving memory of Kieran James Wilkinson who sadly passed away on 5th January 2018
Kieran was born 1st June 1996 in Kings Mill Hospital at 7.10pm. He weighed 6lb 3oz and was wide awake and nosey from the first moment he arrived.
I held him in my arms the whole of that first night, scared that if I put him down he wouldn't be there when I woke up. He was a bright and beautiful baby, often mistaken for a girl, with many comments that he was too pretty to be boy even though he would be dressed in blue.
He walked well before his first birthday, and could hold quite a good conversation with you by the time he was 18 months old, he was such a loving little boy and enjoyed nothing more than climbing on your knee for a cuddle.
He sailed through nursery school and primary school, a very intelligent child with a huge potential, but secondary school was his nemesis and unearthed his condition Aspergers, he was finally properly diagnosed when he was 16, when he had unfortunately missed much of his GCSE schooling because of misunderstood behaviours. He still managed to gain a C in Maths and D in English despite the time lost. He began a Health & Social course at Vision West Notts, where he managed to complete his first year but sadly the inadequate support and constantly changing teaching staff didn't sit well with his disorder so he didn't return.
He came to work with me on a temporary contract as a Receptionist/Accounts Clerk and in the summer he was offered the chance to go to study AAT (Accountancy) as an apprentice, he completed his first year easily and also gained a grade higher in his English to enable him to begin the next level, however shortly into the new term Kieran's health began to worsen and eventually he was diagnosed with Epilepsy, he had to leave the college course with a view that he could take it up again in the following September once his health improved.
Kieran suffered a huge trauma later that year when his partner Luke died, Kieran's health further deteriorated as a result and it took months to get him to see that life was worth living again. Kieran needed an operation to pin his shoulder as he had suspected hypermobility in his right shoulder, it kept dislocating when over extended and he knew this meant a 16 week recovery post surgery, with this in mind he decided to leave his job and to use the time to recouperate fully and decide on his future. His shoulder was repaired on 5th April 2017, and he attended my wedding to Des his stepdad on 8th April 2017, a day we cherish for a number of reasons now. On his recovery he decided to return to work and tried many different avenues to get into work but none suited, he tried Sports Direct but because of his medications he was too groggy early on for this to work, and he decided to try being a Bartender, later starts and socialising suited him down to the ground, he enjoyed it, it was the happiest we had seen him in a while, consistently anyway. He was eating well, gaining weight and had everything to look forward to which makes writing his biography seem wrong, 21 years is reduced to a few lines of a page. We all have many memories to keep in our hearts.
He is loved so much and will always be by his family and friends, he is never far away and is always on our minds.
Sleep well my son, we won't say goodbye ever, with all my love for eternity. Mum xxxxxxxx
