Donate in memory of
KathleenAlzheimer's Society
In loving memory of Kathleen Mellers who sadly passed away on 15th December 2017 at Mercy Care Centre, aged 80.
Wife to Gordon, and mother of Stephen, Denise and Michael. Mother-in-Law to Karen and Carl, and Grandma to Jacob and Matthew. Sister to Ian, Roy and (the late) Margaret. Beloved Auntie to Christine and Elizabeth.
Kathleen lived for most of her adult life in Duffield, Derbyshire. Where she worked as a secondary school and supply teacher at Ecclesbourne School before retiring. She loved local community life, running the local Friday night Badminton group for many years. Her friends and family will affectionately remember her for her love of everything purple, her passion for snoopy and artists such as Frank Sinatra and Andre Rieu. She loved to travel and spent many cycling holidays with her best friend, Vivien Wood, and motor caravan holidays with Gordon. She continued to swim every week at Nuffield Sports Centre until Alzheimer's disabled her from doing so safely. Her love of the sea, especially in Greece, was one of her greatest joys and one she introduced her grandsons to at an early age.
She moved to Mercy Care Dementia Centre just over 2 years ago, when she was unable to continue to look after herself and spent the remainder of her life in their community being cared for and loved by their wonderful staff and close by to Gordon.
The family would like to thank Mercycare for their compassion and love towards Kathleen and for making her last few years as happy and comfortable as they could be.
Please let us know via this invitation if you can join us at either / both Markeaton Crematorium, Thursday 28th December at 3:20pm, and afterwards at 4pm at The Broadway, Darley Abbey.
