In loving memory of Daphne Price who sadly passed away on 4th December 2017 after a short illness, at Abbey House. Daphne was born on the 9th February 1921, in Kembrey St, Gorse Hill, Swindon. Educated at Gorse Hill Primary Schools and Euclid St Grammar School, she worked in the Great Western Railway Accounts Office from September 1939, until May 1946 when she left to train as a teacher at Exmouth Teacher Training College.
She married Charles Smith on 3rd July 1948, and enjoyed teaching for 30 years. They retired in 1980 and followed their dream to live by the sea in Brean. They were both kept busy with local groups and holidays abroad, appearing on the Village Hall stage in many productions, with Daphne playing both piano and Methodist Church organ for many services and events.
She was very involved in craft activities with the WI and became a crafts judge at the Bath and West Show in knitting, crochet , glove making, patchwork and all kinds of sewing, producing many spectacular pieces, for many people.
Daphne continued a very busy life as an active member of the senior Fellowship and the WI, following Charles untimely death at New Year, 1989. She met Walter Price when he moved into his son's bungalow next door and enjoyed outings with the Senior fellowship together following his wife's death. They married in May 1994, and Walter moved in with Daphne, and they enjoyed several happy years together.
WhenDaphne had to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she came to stay with Jane and Ian, to recuperate, and lived happily at 'the Meadows' for over 5 years, until a fall resulted in a stay in hospital, and it was then felt that she would benefit from more intensive care at Abbey House as her strength was not what it had been, and she enjoyed the company and activities there for 18 months until her recent illness.
