Albert Hampson passed away peacefully on Friday 17th November 2017, aged 99. Albert leaves a legacy that spanned ten decades and he positively impacted the lives of so many people.

Albert was a decorated Para-trooper in World War 2, a dedicated Karate-ka and General Secretary for the SKIGB (Shotokan Karate International Great Britain) for over 25 years, he was an inspirational teacher at Fernwood Comprehensive School, a student, friend, colleague, neighbour, Father to Pat and Jane and life long husband to his late wife Francis.

Albert was a true gentleman. He was honest, genuine and his tremendous contributions touched so many people. The world is a far better place for Albert having been here.

Albert spent the final 3 years of his life living at Meadow Lodge Care Home in Beeston. The amazing staff there looked after him, cared for him and made him comfortable until the end of his life. Meadow Lodge have several fund raising events each year to raise money which they spend on experiences for the residents (visitors coming in to entertain, trips to a local pub for a Xmas lunch and drinks, Easter eggs, etc) Albert (and the other residents) got tremendous joy from these experiences. If you would like to make a donation to this fund instead of sending flowers there will be a collection at the funeral. Albert would have been very happy to know his friends at Meadow Lodge were enjoying a meal or afternoon out on him.

If you would like to pay your respects and say a final farewell to Albert the details of his funeral are as follows.

I was one of his many pupils at the Fernwood Secondary School in Wollaton. Mr Hampson was very inspiring and he encourages pupils to take a special interest in many aspects of geography which was not part f the curriculum during the lunch break. I really enjoyed these sessions as it was a way of not being tufted out into the cold in the winter months!

  • I too was one of his pupils 1970-75. He used to take us out on walking day trips to Derbyshire usually, Dove Dale etc. These were some of the most enjoyable days of my younge life, he was so knowledgeable and interesting. He was a great teacher from a different era. As I write this I am in my 64th year and I still think of him often when out and about walking, he started in me a love of the countryside and I will be forever grateful to him my favourite teacher and a gentle soul.
