Joan Weir (27 Aug 1922 - 13 Nov 2017)

In loving memory of Joan Weir who sadly passed away on 13th November 2017, aged 95.

Joan Weir (nee Houghton) was born on 27 August 1922 in Bootle, Lancashire. She was the second daughter of George and Francis Houghton. She attended Bootle Secondary School, and the Houghton family attended Bank Hall Mission which was a large and vibrant church. It was also the Weir Family church which is where she met Bill Weir whom she married as soon as the war was over.

Rod was born in 1948 and the family home was a short distance from the home of Liverpool FC, Anfield. In 1952 they moved to Layton Road Woolton where Martin was born in 1958. The family attended St James Methodist Church in Woolton; faith being an important aspect of family life.

Rod left the UK in 1972 and eventually settled in Sydney, Australia. Martin left home 4 years later for Nottingham.

Sadly Bill died in 1987 & Joan was a widow for over 30 years.

Over time Joan has enjoyed watching her five grandchildren grow up & flourish. She made many trips to Australia to spend time with Rod's family; no mean feat considering the distance.

Joan moved to Beeston, Nottingham in 1998 to be closer to Martin's family and she quickly settled into the local community. She continued to live an independent life until she moved to the Grange Residential Home, Sandiacre in 2015 (aged 93).

Joan will be remembered by her family & friends as a gracious, kind hearted, caring and hospitable lady.
