In loving memory of Eunice Forsyth Gage who sadly passed away on 31st October 2017.
Eunice dedicated her life to family and service of others, whether through her career as a State Registered nurse or through the Girl Guide movement.
She loved her children, Alison, Hilary, Andrew & Richard and was a doting grandmother to Matthew, Lorah, Luke, Joshua, Laine and Holly and in the latter part of her life, shared her huge heart even more with her great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brandon, Jonathan, Jacob, Mila & Ava. She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family, spoiling them and feeding them - her cooking was legendary.
She was the third of four children, Joyce, Roy & Elvin. Sadly, both brothers proceeded her in death and she is survived by Joyce.
She trained as a nurse at the North Staffs Royal Infirmary, beginning her career as a cadet nurse and going on to work as a staff nurse at both Burton General infirmary and Burton District Hospital Center ( later to become Queen Elizabeth Hospital). She dedicated her entire working life to the NHS and retired as a much loved and respected staff member.
She met Terry, her husband, when selected to attend the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Terry was a career journalist and was assigned to interview her for the occasion. The rest, as they say, is history and the two were married in Stone after a “romantic”proposal at a bus stop in the rain. The couple stayed married until Terry’s untimely death in 1990.
After this Eunice settled in Stretton and lived a quiet life until her death.
She made lifelong friends, including a 64 year enduring friendship with Maureen, who was one of her two bridesmaids. The two met as nursing cadets and the friendship lasted to her death. She was known as a friendly, caring person by all who knew her..
In 2007, her family grew to include the family of her new daughter-in-law, Julie, who is American. She loved this new family and traveled to Nashville four times in the last ten years, twice on her own. She loved visiting with her new family and was always keen to try new experiences - including riding powered shopping carts. The sight of her zooming round Walmart was a sight to be believed!
