Anthony Sawyer (31 Jan 1939 - 8 Sep 2017)

On returning from Tony's funeral, Matthew asked me, with a solemn face, 'how was the funeral Mummy?' I said it was sad but Grandad is now at peace up in sky probably happily fishing. Matthew's eyes lit up and he said 'Grandad's that man fishing on the moon - in the Dreamworks picture!' Super cute and such a lovely way to remember Grandad.

Tony was my father in law and I genuinely could not have had a better one. Such a devoted family man - nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He would always do things for others without ever asking for anything himself. He was generous to the core.

Tony taught Steve so much over the many years they had together - how you make your own way in the world - how working hard opens opportunities. Tony had such a big impact on Steve's success in life. I know he'll miss all their chats together whether about fishing or football banter.

Tony was such a wonderful man - and a fantastic Grandad. Even though they are still young Matthew, Benjamin and Charlie will hold special memories of their time with Grandad. They had such fun times together especially on holiday digging in the sand! He was never afraid to get on his hands and knees and play lego, never ending games and jigsaws - they loved him for that! His was always so patient and happy to join in.

Tony will be truly missed by us all - he is now at peace by that big fishing lake in the sky!
