Beryl Alice Grimsdell was born on the 3rd May 1929, to Winifred and Arthur Brammer,
she had a big brother who she unfortunately never met, called Georgie as he died before she was born

When she left school
She worked at BTR rubber factory as a comptometer operator
and that is where she met the love of her life Albert, whom she called Bert
and they were married on the 30th March 1957.
And
Linda was born in May 1959.

and she doted on her Grandsons ,
Neil and Mark
and of course her gorgeous Great-grandchildren too

she was a really good cook and
In the run up to Christmas she baked every day for 2 weeks making mince pies ,
jam tarts
meringues
shortbread
and cakes,
then she would share them around her friends and neighbours
she liked to make things from scratch and never bought ready prepared food,
in fact she didn’t buy a sandwich until she was over 80, and then when she did she was horrified by the price

She went to dress making classes at Burton College and enjoyed making her own clothes,
She was also a talented knitter
and enjoyed crochet too

She was a dab hand at DIY learning how to wallpaper and decorate and generally care for the family home.

She also liked to spend time in the garden and especially
growing home grown vegetables

She liked to keep fit,
and rode a bicycle for many years and enjoyed going to keep fit classes too,
in fact she never saw the need to drive a car and didn’t have a driving licence,
nor did she ever have a passport
but she did enjoy going on coach trips to Scotland and the Isle of Wight with friends

She was a wonderful mum,
Grandmother and great-grandmother caring for her family,
and especially Bert, who was disabled,
and she cared for him until he died in 1976

After she was widowed she joined the widows society and met other women in similar circumstances to herself
and she enjoyed spending time with her friends
and started going to tea dances at the town hall
and scrabble club, inf act she really loved playing scrabble and anything involving words like crosswords and particularly liked to watch the tele programme countdown.
She used her skills or her love of words too, to teach adults who had lost out on their education, literacy skills

She always wanted to stay in her own home and keep her independence
which she did
right up until the last week of her life
her favourite saying was
Count your blessings
