John Carter (23 Apr 1948 - 21 Aug 2017)

I have known John for over fifty years and have fond memories as a group of friends playing football regularly in Heavitree Park in Exeter. It was obvious then that John had a passion for football !

I left Exeter in the early seventies for work reasons returning to Devon about ten years ago and thankfully was able to get to know John again and socialise with Wendy and him , sometimes as part of the same group of friends that played together in the park all those years ago.

Apart from football, John loved to go to see and hear old sixties and seventies pop groups and performers. This was a subject that John and I could talk a lot about and sometimes we attend concerts with him.

John was one of those people you meet in your life that you feel so lucky to have known and to be able to call a friend. He will be very much missed by everybody that knew him and I for one will never forget him. The thoughts of my wife Jan and I are with Wendy and their family. Rest in peace John.

John has been a great friend since our days at Heavitree Junior School when we were 5 years old. I will always remember our many visits to the Capels fish and chip shop, John could never pass it without buying and of course with Tomato Ketchup! The many years playing tennis, table tennis, our races around the Broadfields estate, of course there had to be money on the end of it!! The super yearS at Beacon Knights, the number of children that John provided football for was amazing. Can't forget the trips in the back of the green van 9801EL. To think that John played table tennis for a couple of years with current Ruler of Dubai !!!. John would always be there to help at any time day or night, will miss our many visits to the city and the Senior Reds and our discussions putting the world to right! A great friend also to my wife Liz . Rest in Peace.

I first met "Uncle" John over 21 years ago. John was a good family friend. I always remember receiving many hairdressing samples over the years with endless supplies of macadamia oil! John was a good family man through and through. He will be missed by those who knew him. My thoughts are with Wendy, Helen, Stephen, Lee and their family x

Uncle John was a super person in my life and a great human being... the memories I have from the impact from John has had in my life that are so wide and all bring a smile to my face.

From the time when there was a fire at my house and he kept me at his house.. and telling me to run faster when he was my manager of my under 11's football team. .. i was super slow....lol.

He always supported me in my career and paid an interest and always offered help and ideas... he was one of my special people...

There is always a space left behind when such a special one is taken.

John you will be never forgotten.

Very saddened to hear of John's passing. I played under John for Beacon Knights U11-U14 (1987-1991) - the happiest days of my footballing life. We had a great team. John's secret? He simply loved his players.

My deepest condolences to John's family. John was a genuinely nice person who was always up for a chat and a laugh. I fondly remember playing tennis with John and socialising at Heavitree Social Club. He always had a kind word to say and would really listen when you talked to him. RIP John.
