In loving memory of Ruth Nixon who sadly passed away in a nursing home on 27th June 2017.

Ruth was born in Buxton in 1929 to Eric and Kathy Vickers, and went to school at Queens College, Harley Street, in London. She studied dentistry at Leeds University.

In 1958 she married Rev Robin Nixon, who was a Curate at Holy Trinity Church in Hull.

In 1960, Ruth and Robin moved with their daughter Janet to Durham, where Robin took up a job as a tutor at St John's College, Durham, and while there Ruth gave birth to two more daughters, Helena and Angela.

Ruth worked in the School Dental Service while her children were young, and then took up a partnership in Teeside.

In 1975, Ruth and Robin moved to Nottingham, when Robin was appointed Principal of St John's College Nottingham. Ruth set up her own dental practice in Chilwell, and also conducted sessions at the Oral Surgery Department of the Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, but was still always keen to get involved with College activities, and she and Robin frequently entertained staff and students at their home.

Tragically Robin died very suddenly in 1978 at the age of 46. Ruth returned to Durham with her three daughters and set up a practice in Sunderland.

On retirement, Ruth became involved with the March for Jesus organisation in the North East, before moving to the West Midlands to be closer to her family.
