In loving memory of Jim McConville who sadly passed away on 9th August 2017
Born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, Jim was a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was also a highly intelligent man with a very dry sense of humour and possessed film-star good looks in his younger days.
Jim was a very private person, who never made a song and dance about himself. Though outwardly unassuming, he was ever generous and thoughtful. A quiet observer of the world around him, he had a deep social conscience and was passionate about the rights of others. He devoted many years speaking up on behalf of other people as a union representative when he worked for British Telecom.
He was an avid follower of current affairs and was rarely without a copy of The Guardian in hand. Throughout his life, he never wavered from his guiding principles of defending a person’s freedom and human rights.
Jim was a man ahead of his time in many respects and he was a real “hands-on” dad in an era when that was not common.
He leaves behind Gloria, his wife and lifelong partner of more than 60 years, and his three children Antoinette, Karen and Jason. He will remain in their hearts and thoughts forever.
