In loving memory of Andrew David Weir 'Speedy' who sadly passed away on 29th July 2017

Andy was born on Alexandra Street, Warsop and was the 4th of 9 siblings. As a young boy he gained the nickname "Speedy" as he was able to win any race or outrun any pursuer be it male or female. He worked at various pits during his early years and was proud to have taken part in the miners strike for the whole duration. He also worked as a labourer before moving to Spain where he spent his time working the bars much to his enjoyment:). After moving back home he decided to make Liverpool his home and found a passion for gardening due to his new job in a garden centre. After moving back to Warsop he enjoyed being the new litter picker until he got the position of town centre ranger with the local council. He got himself an allotment and loved supplying his friends and family with his lovely eggs and fruit and vegetables as and when they were in season. He enjoyed the friendships of his fellow gardeners and this became a large part of his leisure time. He also loved going to festivals and watching live music of course with a pint in his hand. He also enjoyed supporting his nephews in their fighting careers.

. In 2010 he suffered a life changing stroke that robbed him of his left side but being the determined little sod he always has been he wasn't about to take it lying down and within 7 days was walking without aid and returned to work after just 3 weeks. Unfortunately after an altercation with another staff member Andy's employment was terminated and he was unable to find a suitable job from then on. Anyone that has had recent contact with Andy will have noticed a significant change in his appearance and behaviour and I can loosely confirm that he had only recently received a diagnosis of early onset dementia. Fortunately for him he thought he looked like Brad Pitt so all wasn't lost :).
Andy suffered a catastrophic stroke whilst receiving treatment for pneumonia at Kingsmill ICCU who I can never ever thank enough for the care they gave him whilst trying to save him and also for the support we had from the wonderful nursing staff and doctors alike and not forgetting the staff on ward 41 for the care and support we had there also.
A beloved son and brother who will be sorely missed xx

Speedy was 1 of the older lads 'down owd part' that we looked up to. Handsome, twinkling eyes, a killer smile, into martial arts, had pretty girlfriends and rode fast bikes! He was an idol to us young gals in Warsop. I had the pleasure to drink and laugh with him during the Windmill club era and even years later in Mansfield when he'd drive by in his big truck waving. Unforgettable character. Love to all the Weir family xxxxxxxxxx

I can't remember exactly how we met but some time in 1981 we became every day mates, a proper chalk n cheese relationship, he was a ladies man a fitness fanatic and a bit of fighter, if provoked, and I wasn't, I'd like to think I had a calming influence on him for a while at least, another lost friend Rob Weistort told us about mushrooms in plentiful supply in fields around darly dale and many excursions in my mini were made in search of these illicit fungi, It was a hilarious blast back at Speedys gaff down the old part, just a few weeks fun for me that one year, but I don't think speedy ever gave them up lol. Generation X kiss me deadly album playing every time. His life has been tragically cut short but he's crammed more in his years than most of us would manage if we lived to a 100. Goodbye old friend your place is cemented in Warsop folklore you'll never be forgotten.x
