Whether you knew Ray for a short or long time, you will have shared good times with him and its those times that we ask that you remember him by when you think about him. Whether it was a good time, a picture that you have or an adventure shared, please do share them with us here.
Ray was born in Romford in 1943 and was just one of a number of boys in the family. He was educated at boarding school until 15. After a leaving school Ray moved to Hatfield, Hertfordshire, where he began work finding his feet as a "wheel tapper" looking after the trains at Finsbury Park. Ill health saw him moving to a variety of jobs after this, where he always gave one hundred percent.
Ray has five children, Sonya, Paula and Zoe from his first marriage and Raymond and Frankie, from his marriage to Sue. Ray and Sue moved to Gorleston in 2001 and this is where Ray called home, making new friends and joining a bowls club.
Ray was well known for supporting local businesses and charities and helping where he could. He was always popping into the local shops and cafes and if you could not find him there, you could guarantee that you would find him out walking the dog. He was always meeting someone new and would stop to say hello and ask how you were, or chat about what was happening in the world. He had some strong political views and would happily get involved in lengthy discussions, he also had a wicked sense of humour, if somewhat dirty, he loved a good joke!
Ray will always be remembered for his passion, strength and determination. Right till the very end he fought with courage and dignity. He will be remembered always and be in our thoughts every day.
In loving memory of Ray John Davies who sadly passed away on 5th August 2017
