On Thursday 27th July Syd went to be with the Lord he has served all of his life, 54 years as a Minister of the Gospel. He will be missed very much by his sister Ann, cousin Margaret, in laws Billy, Rita, Joe and Jane, Pat and was a dearly loved uncle, cousin and friend to many. A service of thanksgiving for his life will take place on Monday August 7th in his church, Easington Lane Independent Methodist Church at 11.30am followed by a burial in Easington Lane Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in lieu if so desired to ELCAP our local community centre of which Syd was a part. A collection box will be provided at the church. Sid was a footballer one of the HARD men , a fierce but fair defender I played on teams with Sid and he never backed away from a tackle , impressive player. But he was a community person , with a surname that will go on infinitum , You could confide in him , he would give sound advice and in his way he was an equal to Monty , and Charles.

I used to travel with Sid to and from our dialysis sessions. I haven't been doing that for a while so I had no idea that Sid had passed. My heart goes out to Mary and the family. A lovely gentleman who was much loved. So sorry, Colette.

Sad news for all of Easington Lane and surrounding villages. Always listened to us and did your utmost to fulfill our wishes. I will always be eternally grateful for the love and attention you gave my sister on your visits in hospital to speak with her. I remember you clasping my hands in yours when my husband passed and for the calmness you brought. My thoughts are with all your lovely family. God surely has gained a wonderful Angel. R.I.P x

Till we meet again on that beautiful shore. You have left our port and as we watched you head over the horizon god whispered to us that he and many others are waving you in on the other side.

  • To my beloved husband, mentor and best friend my love goes with you until we can be together again. Thanks for everything you have shared with me these past 54 years and our beautiful family who are helping and supporting me so much just as you would have done - they are indeed their fathers sons. I am so proud of them as I was of you. All my love as always Mary xx

I was never a member of Syds church , or any church for that matter but he visited me in hospital once just because we are neighbours. It was many years ago but I was greatly touched and have never forgotten his kindness.
