In loving memory of Nancy Prentice who sadly passed away on 7th July 2017.
Nancy Edith Prentice was born in Beeston on the 12th February 1928. She attended Nether Sreet School, Beeston and worked at Boots factory until 1948.
Nancy met 'Roy Prentice' the love of her life, in 1940 when she was only 15. They got engaged in April 1945 on Roy's first home leave from the army, and Nancy married 'her Roy' on the 5th of June 1948.
Nancy was devoted to her husband Roy, her three children, Bob, Jeff and Julie, her two daughters-in-law Noreen and Carole, her 5 grandchildren, Joanne, David, Sam, Lucy and Tom Robert, and her 6 great grandchildren Abby, Noah, Madeline, Scarlett, Freddie and Martha Rose. She loved them all unconditionally and was loved and adored by them all.
Nancy was a founder member of the Beeston Mother's Club when her children were younger, a volunteer worker at the Citizens Advice Bureau and an active member of the 2 o'clock Club in more recent years.
Nancy was truly 'a lover of life' loved by all her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but most especially by her husband and family. A lovely precious lady who had time and unconditional love for everyone.
The family have made a polite request that bright colours be worn at the celebration of Nancy's life, which is to be held at Bramcote Crematorium on Tuesday 18th July 2017 at 3.30pm.
A reception is to be held after the service, at Chilwell Manor Golf Club from 4.30 to 6.30.
The family have requested there should only be family flowers, and that any donations should be made to the Alzheimers Society on the attached link.

My most beautiful Granny and Nan as your great grandchildren called you. I miss you so much, how do I begin to tell you how much I loved you, how much you meant to me and our family, how much you shaped the person I am today. I have so many happy memories of you all are filled with love and laugher.

My earliest memories were of staying with you in Orchard Crescent David and I getting up so early running into your bedroom, you didn't send us back to our beds exclaiming it is the middle of the night - instead you wrapped us both up warm and told us stories of your childhood adventures in wartime Nottingham. We would both cry tell us more - we never tired of hearing them and neither did your great grandchildren.

Our many frequent trips to see you and Granddad in Orchard Crescent were always exciting and you would meet us at the door with the biggest of hugs - 'Granny love' we called it. You were the best cook - and when we arrived we would always have a homemade pie - meat & potato, cheese and onion, steak and kidney ( blended because granddad didn't like chunks of meat) and once we even got a fruit pie served with our beans - I think the label had fallen off in the freezer, it was still delicious though.

You were the most patient, supportive and encouraging of teachers - I remember you teaching me how to paint in watercolour, we sat in your beautiful garden our subject was freshly picked sweet peas and when I almost threw my brush down in temper shouting "I can't do this" you simply said there is no such word as can't and passed me a fresh piece of paper to try again. When you and Nonny came to look after David and I in Lancashire we put on a show for you - singing and dancing and I remember despite only studying French for a couple of weeks pretending I could speak fluently - you smiled and cheered regardless of the fact I was talking in gibberish!

I have so many happy memories of walking with you and Granddad in Yorkshire, when we were very young and our legs were tired you would us to march singing "left, right, left, right I left my bucket I left my spade I went to join the Boys Brigade" we would soon forget about our aches and pains. This continues to distract our children when they say they are tired too.

You welcomed Mark into your family immediately - he remembers the first time we came to stay your served up a huge tomato salad - he hated tomatoes but there was no way he was going to refuse to eat them especially when they had been grown by Granddad, he ate every last one and they are now one of his favourite things to eat.

Abby and Noah remember searching for fairies and hunting crocodiles in the Magic Wood, feeding the ducks and geese in Martin Mere, you teaching them how to draw a circle with a dot in the middle without lifting your pen of the page and Abby just loved painting your nails to make them look pretty.

In the last few years as you began to forget the here and now, you were still an avid story teller and we all would love to hear you recount stories from your life, of friends and family and your wonderful Roy. They were so wonderful to listen and you would light up with joy and you told them and you made those who were listening so happy - because they all contained a story that involved you and they were always filled with love.

We all love you so much - you will always be in our hearts, reaching out with your Granny love. xxxx

  • Joanne, that is such a loving tribute to your beautiful Granny. Your lovely childhood memories along with Mark's, Abby and Noah's bring her back to us, just as she was, so loving and full of life. And this is how she will remain for ever in our hearts and minds. Loved and remembered with beautiful memories, passed on down the generations of our family. Mum and Dad ??

In my words I really can not articulate what a special human being my Gran is to me, whilst I may not be able to give you some "Granny Love" as you fondly referred to a cuddle as or perhaps a long kiss on the lips known as a "toe curler" these memories amongst many others will live on eternally in my heart and mind and those of my children and their children and their children. Gran you bought so much love & light to my life and this I pass onto my children and to all whom I touch.
I recall being a young boy cuddled up to you in your bed with Joanne on the other side of you when Granddad had gone out to work, I remember your dark purple dressing gown, your attitude to life that there was no such word as can't when I was struggling to do something. I recall you looking over my homework when I was in high school and you drawing a big line through it and writing that my effort wasn't good enough. Gran you were right and whilst my feelings may have been hurt at the time it didn't take me long to reflect and realise that my Gran was right and I should have made more effort .
I loved hearing your stories about your life as a young girl, Joanne and I would listen intently for what seemed like hours begging you to continue on and tell us more before our eyes would eventually close and I would sleep in a restful slumber knowing that I was secure and that I was loved. There is so much that I recall and that brings a smile to my face when I do.

Lucy recalls meeting you and Granddad for the first time when we came to visit you, you'd made a lovely pea & ham soup which we both demolished in no time at all. It's funny how Lucy prior to this had never been the biggest fan of peas, however since that time Lucy will eat peas on occasion.

Maddy recalls us all going out for a meal to The Priory, you, Pops & Scarlett skipped through the car park. Maddy recalls making a Lemon drizzle cake with Scarlett and bringing it down to you when we were visiting, she was most pleased at your positive comments especially as you were known as the best pudding maker in our family. Maddy still plays with the YoYo that bears your name Nancy on it.
Scarlett recalls your loving warm smile whenever we visited you and always enjoyed it when you went through the family history book.Scarlett recalls one of our visits to Martin Mere and how much you enjoyed the particular ice cream you were eating as you'd never had such a delicious ice cream before.

Freddie loves the rhyme " Eyes, nose mouth chin follow me down to Uncle Jim, Uncle Jim sells lemonade round the corner chocolate is made".
We all recall that all Martha could do when you held her in your arms for the first time was gaze back into your eyes smiling, the love that radiated all around was truly evident and this remains within all our hearts.
You're with us all the time & we all continue to feel your love.
