Adam & I started off as Pen Pals back in 1993. Kids today will have no clue what that means, what with social media & email etc. A friend from Adams school had joined mine and had a photo album of her old school mates and he looked funny so I wrote to him…. He surprisingly wrote back! I still have that very first the letter now (along with several others over the years).
As we grew older the letters turned to phone calls, then emails, then texts and then good old Facebook. We lost contact a couple of times over the 24 years of knowing each other but we always found each other again and thanks to Facebook we never lost contact since then.
It was a joy to be able to attend Adam & Heathers Wedding (although I did get lost and didn’t make it to the right church in time – sorry again). And thanks to Facebook I have had the pleasure of watching Nate grow from afar.
Adam & his family visited me in Southampton a couple of times on the way to visit his Parents in France and I am so very pleased I was able to meet Nate and that Adam held my baby boy Theo in his arms at only 5 days old, a picture in my memory I will never forget (picture shared here).
I was planning a visit to Nottingham in August for Adams 40th Birthday and I was looking forward to poking a bit of fun at him for ‘getting on a bit’ (being 9 months younger I always got away with it). I am saddened that on my next visit to Nottingham, he will not be there. My heart is broken with the loss of one of my oldest, closest friends.
Not only was Adam a dear friend to me, but he also became a great friend to Mathew, my fiancé albeit their support of rival football teams the football banter was never-ending.
Goodnight ‘Sweetheart’, Forever in my heart, your Southern Comfort, Carmen xxx
