Alan Connors-Fowler NE Alan Fowler was born at home in Yeadon, Leeds on Easter Sunday at 5.00pm on 9th April 1939, son of Hilda and Herbert Fowler. He met his future wife, Barbara when she was a little girl of nine years of age, whilst holidaying in Whitley Bay every year at her parents' guest house. He fell in love with her blue eyes straight away and Barbara loved to hear him playing the piano and singing and playing guitar. He was a fantastic musician. They were engaged when he was 21 and she was 16, before his first tour serving in the Military Police in Malta. They were married 3 years later and during their lives together have 3 cherished daughters and 9 wonderful grandchildren who love and respect them both dearly.
Alan served for 22 years with the Armed Forces being stationed in Armagh - Northern Ireland during the troubles, Bicester - Oxfordshire, Wulfen and Osnabruck - Germany, Devizes - Wiltshire, Donnington - Telford and Leconfield - East Riding. While Alan was stationed in Devizes he and his company were sent to Cyprus during a very dangerous period working at the hospital there. Alan and Barbara shared many projects together, including both training as aero medics at the Princess Margaret's Hospital in Wroughton, serving part time with the RAF being heavily involved in Force Preparation for the Gulf War in 1990. Alan's devotion to service was truly exemplary and he was very proud to do so. Alan then became a Driving Instructor/Qualified Testing Officer at Leconfield for 20 years before he retired, to then run the family guest house with Barbara in Whitley Bay where they had originally met. In 2015 Alan and Barbara moved to Horncastle to be nearer to their children. He adored his wife Barbara and his family which extended to his son-in-laws and was very proud of them.
Alan's greatest gift was being able to help and give advice to anyone who met him, with an unconditional kindness. He loved listening and talking about any subject that anyone wanted to talk about, always giving them time.
Alan passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on 4th June 2017. Even though Alan was very poorly he was very brave and courageous and on reflection he wanted to keep memories created with his family as normal as possible.
He was the devoted Husband of Barbara. Much loved Dad of Alison, Suzanne and Siobhan. Cherished and inspirational Grandad to Adam, Hilary, Lewis, Annie, Claire, David, Joanna, Holly and Trinity.
His family are broken hearted and will miss him dearly. He was everything to them and more.
Barbara would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and support at this very difficult time. God bless you all.
For anyone attending Alan's funeral there is free car parking facilities at The Wong, Horncastle, LN9 6EA. It is a 4 minute walk to St Mary's Church. The wishes of the family are no flowers but donations to Alan's two favourite charities.
“Rest in peace darling, we will love you until the stars forget to shine”
