In loving memory of Margaret (Mags) Riddell who sadly passed away on 31st May 2017

Mags was my wife for many years. This year was the 40th anniversary year, which will not be a session of being morose, but a celebration of life. She lived to help people and didn`t care about their religion, ethnicity, disability, or anything. You were a person, and had an identity. She encouraged everyone to be the person they are and be an individual and the more individual, the better
A Nurse, she did Midwifery, Intensive Care, a short private nursing time, District Nurse and latterly care of the elderly. All of which related to making other lives, better. This year was to be a Midwives reunion; sadly, not to be. However, raise a glass to one who cared for others, sometimes to excessive length.
A caring family person, she loved her family, and Stephen her son & Karen his wife, whom she `adopted` as a daughter [and fashion adviser]. Loyalty was all; no one was abandoned, or left to suffer.
If she won the lottery, she`d have kept `enough to live on` and given the rest to the poor. She never understood excess wealth and people`s desire for it, in any way.
A six year battle against Cancer was fought with the inherent stubbornness, you`d expect. Hoewever, some battles can`t be won.
Even at the end, when pain was becoming unendurable, the Hospital staff were being told to go and treat others, and make sure they had proper breaks.
Life will be very quiet, from now on. The Irish `eccentricities` are stuff of legend. I`d need a major publication to relate them.
I fell in love the first time we met and despite 2 Celtic temperaments, never regretted a day, since.
However, remember the good times and be glad you met her.
The funeral will celebrate the Irishness and her beliefs.
Don`t be sad, just celebrate.

Fond memories of a very special lady, Mags.

Alistair, Stephen, Karen and all of Mag's family in Scotland and Ireland. Sincere condolences to you all.

We are thinking of you.

Happy smiling Mags with her soft Corkonian lilt, you will never be forgotten.

I am sure Mags was greeted with open arms by all her loved ones in heaven.

My Mother, Carmel, was a good friend of Mags. Both ladies trained in the late 1960's at St Finbarrs Hospital Cork. Mum passed away nearly 20 years ago. I'm sure Mags and Mum have already reunited, no doubt having the best 20 year catch up over a drink happily remembering great times by the Lee and the early days in Edinburgh.

Rest in peace Mags. May your shining star look after us all. xxxx

Shane & Kevin.
Conor, Zoey & Fraser.
