In loving memory of Sandra Alison Platten who sadly passed away on 19th May 2017.
Much loved by both her sons, Christian & Kieran and their partners Emma & Sarah.
Much loved by her mother Marlene, Sister Tracy & brother Martyn & families
Sandra was born in Nottingham & was educated at William Crane, she started work at Meridian on Haydn Road,
progressing to other Textile companies in & around Nottingham. I met her on Christmas Eve 1996, raining heavily, my friend & I ran across Parliament Street to The Princess, seeing her at the bar, I knew there was something special about her. After a few months of dating we brought our first house at Carlton, Sandra was working for Kappler at Colwick, then along came our first son Christian making us a family, followed the next year 1991 by getting married at All Hallows Church Gedling. What a fantastic day that was! Christian stealing the show in his little sailors uniform.
Sandra giving me the best news any dad could get, she was expecting.
Kieran was born in 1992 & life was getting better. Sandra was a full time mother.
1994 was the year we left Carlton & moved to Hucknall to a little cul de sac, great neighbours, great barbeques & making good lifelong friends, Kay & Tim, Phil & Lisa, John & Marie, Jayne & Wayne.
This was where Sandra fell in love with Great Danes and we got our first puppy naming her Ellie.
Sandra went to Hucknall College where she gained her RSA qualifications in typing.
We started going on holidays abroad to Greece where Sandra fell in love with Rhodes especially a small place called Pefkos, and a small beach called Plakia and a drink called Metaxa!.
Kids were growing up so Sandra got a job at Calverton Supreme Care working as their book keeper & after a couple of years went to work for John Mawhood Accountants at Calverton.
Sandra was doing a lot of work trying to stop developers building on the green sites around Hucknall working with a group called HARD.
A lot of arguing ensued between different residents so Sandra left to start her own fight, I always remember one lady saying "You won't stop them Sandra". That was like a red rag to a bull, "We'll see" she said.
It made me so proud when Sandra walked through the door and Said; "We've done it, they're not going to build on the field". I would have liked to have seen that lady's face.
The boys were now playing rugby for Mellish and they needed volunteers, step in Sandra!
She became the Junior Secretary collecting all the lads Memberships and campaigning to the Seniors for them to come and coach.
On match days you would always find her in the kitchen doing the Teas and bacon cobs for the spectators, but when it was finished it was time to feed the young players. Sandra would inspect their hands, "Not clean, no food"
Back they would go get washed, properly this time and get fed. This rule applied to home and away teams.
Sandra always made sure all the children were being looked after and safe. She loved going to Mellish, meeting people and making new friends.
Sandra then took over from John Mawhood as he was retiring, but still used his office at Calverton.
2003 we moved again, this time to Sutton in Ashfield. We lost Ellie after about a year, but gained two cats Soph & Zeb
Sandra didn't like the house being empty and missed Ellie terribly.
Work was getting hard travelling to Calverton, then travelling again to see her customers and having lost three of her best customers meant it was time to cease.
Both the lads were in their teens and wanting to go out and about and Sandra felt a bit isolated not having many friends in Sutton made it hard for her, it didn't matter to me as I travelled to work.
Sandra having packed in work decided on doing some volunteer work at PDSA in Sutton. She did this for 2-3 years
and got a job at Heron working on the checkout.
We then got Penny our next Great Dane, Sandra was over the moon another female in the house instead of all boys.
A few years went by and Sandra decided to do more volunteering in Nottingham at Sobar on Friar Lane where she met a lot of people with different backgrounds but with similar problems.
We were then given another Great Dane, thanks to Kieran. Harley was his name 18 months old, big and daft.
After all her hard work she was voted Recovery Champion in 2015 which then led her to applying for a Job at CGL and getting it, working at Newark. Later that year, our beautiful Grandson was born Zachary. Sandra was so proud of Kieran & Sarah, what a beautiful boy he was.
Sandra loved her job, she would tell me everything she had done that day, but she was dogged with bad health, chest infection after chest infection. But you couldn't tell Sandra, she was a strong willed person who was going to do what she wanted to do.
In 2016, we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary by cruising around the Med and stopping a week in Corfu
Romantic nights by the sea and late night swims, perfect.
Just before Christmas 2016, we had to have Penny put down, Sandra was devastated, they become part of the family and Penny was Sandra's favourite.
Then not long into the new year we lost Harley after having had emergency Surgery.
Sandra, couldn't get over the fact we had such a big house and now it was just the two of us, both boys having flown the nest.
I got home from work and Sandra said we should go to A&E, her health had been failing and Sandra had gone further down the Road this time and there would be no way back. She lost her fight on 19th of May.
My boys have lost their Mum, Zachary & Bump have lost their Nana.
I have lost the love of my Life, my soulmate,I will always love you, now & forever.
Until we meet again my love, from Your husband Robert XXXX

Our dear friend Sandra, What can I say? I've got so many memories of you over such a long time. It's hard to comprehend that you are no longer with us; you were such a force! We are all shellshocked and thoughts are all over the place. Me and Phil met you and Rob and the boys when you moved in to number 12 Charnwood Grove and the friendship grew and grew. Charnwood was a fantastic street with great neighbours: lJulie and Rob, Mandy and Dean and family, Gail and Andy. we could rustle up a bbq between us all in no time. The sun always seemed to shine and we had some great parties, great laughs and legendary memories that will live with us all our days. (The memories keep coming back to me and I just remembered the cut out rugby player at the bottom of your stairs! Martin Johnson! One of the neighbours thought a bloke was trapped behind the door!)

We went on holiday to Kos and it was an amazing holiday - jumping in the pool with our clothes on and willing England on to win the World Cup! Fab times. We went to Kos a second time with my mum and John and again the laughs and the memories are precious.

Christmas was always a special time for you, and you made it special for all of us. Round to Dean and Mandy's first for drinks then back to yours later on, you always looked out for my mum, asking her if she felt ok and she loved Christmas Eve at yours. The singing Christmas Tree was got out and we all looked forward to the holidays! You and Rob would be up until the early hours wrapping pressies.

When Phil and I got married abroad in 1999 we decided to have a blessing on our return as we realised we wanted our friends and family there. You were chief organiser and got my dress cleaned and back in about three days flat. You had also decided you were going to do a reading at the blessing and you wanted to learn it by heart - well it took some doing - every Friday for months we would begin the poem - 'and Almitra spoke again - and what of marriage master?' I would look at you and we would fall about laughing, but, come October you rose to the challenge and you were amazing, looking beautiful in your long navy dress you did us proud. I was so proud of you but I must admit I hardly dare look at you in case I made you laugh. The lads were paige boys and I remember catching Kieran's eye and we smiled at each other as you were reading.

That poem came back to me when I heard of your passing and I got the book out 'Kahil Gibran - The Prophet' and read it again - the poems are said to be for big moments in ones life and so my last gift to you is the poem 'On Death by Khalil Gibran' as it begins in the same way as the poem so touched me before. Here are a few extracts from it and I hope it brings some comfort.

..then Almitra spoke saying " We would ask now of death"
and he said: You would know the secret of death
But how shall you find it unless you seek i in the heart of life?
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death,
open your heart wide unto the body of life
For life and death are one, even as the river and sea are one
Trust the dreams for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Thanks San for all the fantastic memories you left us with.
Lots of love to Rob and the boys
From your good friends Lisa, Phil and Lucy also John and Marie
Fly high and may you rest in peace.
Love you xxxxxxxxxxx

I'm a long time friend of Chris and Kieran... after meeting at the Rugby club I became good friends with them both. I have fond memories of Sandra giving me a slap, as I often needed one! Have always had the utmost respect for her and Rob. I consider them a part of my growing up as I spent most Friday nights at there house being a pain in their necks... Lots and lots of love to all the lads. There will always be a little patch in my heart filled with memories of Sandra and the lads xxx

Rob, Christian, Emma, Kieran, Sarah, Zacky, and extended members of the family,

I was deeply saddened to hear about Sandra's journey towards the end and am sincerely sorry for the loss you and your family are experiencing.

We knew Sandra for a short amount of time but I remember the first time we met before Sarah's baby shower and she was so easy to chat to and we had lots to talk about ahead of Zacky being born.

You will all be in our thoughts Tuesday and send our love to all.

Danielle, Dave, Lily, Edie and Finley

Devastated to hear about the loss of Sandra. I may not have been in her life for very long, but she left a profound impact on me, and the memories I have of her will be cherished forever.

Sandra's energy was just electric; she lit up the room wherever she went. You couldn't help but be drawn to her. Her generosity knew no bounds and her laughter could ring on forever.

My sincerest condolences to Rob, Christian & Emma, and Kieran, Sarah, Zachary & bump. I know you'll remember her with love and happiness.

Hannah & family.
