Ailsa was born on the 17th November 1923 in Phulera, Rajasthan, India , the eldest of 6 children to Charles and Theresa Hinchey. She was educated by Roman Catholic nuns and got her Senior Cambridge. After leaving school, she trained by Pitmans as a shorthand typist.
The family left India on the 6th June 1946 and settled in Ashtead, Surrey. After a holiday romance in Butlins, Skegness, she married George Scott on the 17th April 1948 and went on to have 3 boys, Clive, Richard and Alyn.
Although she would have loved to have grand children and great grandchildren, none of her sons married but they were a great comfort and support for her when George died on the 27th February 1990 from prostrate cancer. They were also supportive and took care of her when her health deteriorated. She was well known around Ashtead and loved stopping for a chat with people she met. After 2 falls and 2 hip replacement operations, her mobility was never the same and she rarely got out of the house in her last few years. She enjoyed driving her car but she had to give up after an accident. She also was a keen gardener but dizziness which the NHS could never cure made that impossible. She was also a keen on completing wordsearch puzzles but her worsening dementia meant she didn’t have the concentration to do them. In her younger days she also enjoyed dancing.
She was devoted to looking after her “boys”, as they were still called at the end but the roles reversed as she became frailer and couldn’t do the jobs she was used to doing.
She died in her sleep on the 29th April at home with her 3 sons after her dementia and dizziness suddenly deteriorated over the last 6 months. She is sorely missed by her 3 sons and she will be remembered as a kind, caring person who never had a bad word for anyone but with a steely determination when she wanted something done. She was very independent and could be very stubborn at times. She was very gregarious and loved to have chat with anybody she met.

Aunty Ailsa had such a distinct voice (I can so hear the "Hello Love" - thanks for that, Chris!). She was always wanting to help and genuinely interested in what you had to say. She was always so proud of her "boys" and adored her cats. My sympathies are with the boys and all those who are missing her at this time. She had a long and full life and can now rest peacefully. Unfortunately, I am too far to attend but send my love and will be thinking of you all. R.I.P. Ailsa xx

In loving memory of my dear sister Ailsa. We used to visit at least once a month but as Joan got worse with Parkinsons sadly we are now housebound. So sorry we are unable to attend the funeral, we send our love and thoughts at this very sad time. We really miss her. Joan & Lawrence Coombe xx

Ailsa was the eldest in our family. I remember really getting closer to her when she met George, got married and had three kids. I enjoyed playing with them and got to know what a nice person my sister was. Then when I came to Canada she visited me often and we had some fantastic times. Then one year she brought Helen with her, that was great. I missed her visits as the we both got older, but I loved calling her on the phone. It was great talking to her and having a laugh. Unfortunately as we all get older life changes and visits were impossible. I missed talking to her on the phone towards the end. But Clive would keep me informed when I used to call. One of the best things was her love of her cats, which ran in the family from our mother to my family. I know that she couldnt have done without her sons during her life. Her "boys" were her life. Love you Ailsa!! RIP

Who can ever forget Ailsa who greeted pretty much everyone with the words "hello love"......which is of course because she loved everyone. I can hear those words now. Always present at any family gathering, especially at the Overdale house of Charles and Teresa. Part of my childhood, part of my growing up and always remembered fondly. Sadly I'll be overseas on business, and can't be at the service, but thoughts, condolences and support for Clive, Richard and Alyn. As Tim says so well, she did indeed deserve a long and happy life. RIP

A very dear aunt, a very kind person, a very nice person who was always motivating and supporting, human, very pleasant to talk to, kind-hearted, warm and a very very very memorable member of society. All I can say is I am happy that she had a long and full life and above all, a happy one. She deserved it.
