In loving memory of Charles William Allen (Bob) Wright who sadly passed away on 18th May 2017.
Life is a Journey, and Bob was linked strongly to a train journey throughout his 95 years.
He was born at Chapel Lane Wymondham Leicestershire, on 30th July 1921, the only son to Gladis and Robert Wright, a railway man himself. He had two sisters Mabel and Ann.
Bob met and married his wife of 64 years Doris, with their first family home being 60 Park Lane Old Basford, where he became the proud father of Anthony, Susan and Mandy – who were all born on 21st February. All three children went on to have children, and Bob had 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandad children, and further great great grandchildren. He was proud of all his family, and between him and Doris ensured that the strong working ethos was demonstrated to all their family members.
He attended the Territorial Army with the South Notts Hussars, based at the Derby Road Drill Hall three nights a week. It was with the TA he was called up to serve in the second world war, where he remained until he was demobbed.
After the war he joined the railway and served over 40 years as a signalman until he retired aged 65. Bob always said he had been an area relief signal man and had worked in every signal box within the Nottingham area. He finished his working days in Trent Power box at Toton, as the railways were modernised and signal boxes replaced.
He had moved with Doris and his three children onto Wingbourne Walk Bulwell, in 1965 where Bob and Doris spent over 40 years together, and Bob carried on living there with Zoe his cat for a further 10 years on his own after Doris died.
By request family flowers only please , but if desired donations can be made on the Just Giving Section of this page to 'PDSA' or sent to C Terry Funeral Services, 244 Bulwell High Road, Bulwell, Nottingham, NG6 8NU. A donation box will also be taken on the funeral.
