In loving memory of Gladys Eva Dawson who sadly passed away on 19th March 2017.
Gladys was born on Christmas Eve, 1924, at Great Sturton in Lincolnshire., the eldest of six surviving children born to Ada and George Bourne. She spent most of her childhood around the Louth area and left school at the age of 14 as her parents could not afford for her to continue education. Gladys started her working life as a maid in a large household then, at the age of 18, she volunteered for the A.T.S. to do her part for the war effort.
Subsequently, she had many jobs, from shop work, managing a laundry, school dinner lady, and more, through to her final job as a nursing auxiliary at the Lincoln Maternity Unit. She loved all the babies that came under her care.
Gladys was always a hard worker, even when bringing up a young family of 3 daughters. Marilyn, Janice and Alison came along following Gladys' marriage to Peter in 1950. They were happily married for 53 years prior to Peter's death in 2003, after which he was greatly missed by his family but especially by Gladys.
Gladys was a loving, caring mother, a good friend, a lovely lady with great intelligence and a wonderful smile that lit up her face. She will be greatly missed, not only by her daughters and son-in-law, Tom, but by all who knew her.
