In loving memory of Josephine Irene May Oldham who sadly passed away on Tuesday 14th March 2017 aged 89 years.
Born in Smethwick, Birmingham, on 15th February 1928 to Doris and Fred Baker, Josephine - or simply Josie, or Jo, to her friends and family - had a single brother, David. Josie had a sociable and outgoing personality, with a mischievous, playful wit. Nothing would amuse her more than to tease, to pull your leg.
Her bond with her late husband Tom, a marriage of 36 years, never faltered - although to the casual observer they always appeared to be ready for a row; you would go round their flat on Faraday Court, Stapleford, and you would be greeted by the sounds of bickering, and chuntering, In front of visitors, they would revel in pulling faces behind each other’s back, usually followed by the gesticulating of fists. But this was just part of the act. It was Josie’s sense of humour to appear annoyed by raising those eyebrows and rolling those eyes wide open. Anyone who ever met her will know that famous Josie look.
Josie had a successful career, becoming the PA for the Managing Director of a famous Nottinghamshire Brewery. She was an excellent typist and an expert in Pitman shorthand. She was also a prolific driver, confident enough to travel across Europe to her beloved Italy on several holidays. She retired from work in 1988 and enjoyed many happy years of leisure with her husband, with several holidays in Jersey, Spain, Ibiza and Greece, until Tom sadly passed away in 2003.
During the last year her health declined. She finally stopped driving at 88 years young. Throughout this time she was looked after by her friends and neighbours (including Caroline), and by her carers Anita, Lisa, Jodie, Mel, Louise, Ian and many others.
Josephine will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
