Jeane Mary Wood (30 Dec 1921 - 24 Feb 2017)

In loving memory of Jeane Mary Wood who sadly passed away on 24th February 2017, aged 85 years.

My Big Sis.

We were always close as siblings

But soon engulfed in War

And when we were all evacuated

Jeane stood firm and swore

That we would not be separated

And so we finally came to stay

In a lovely country mansion

Until Mum took us away

Back again to London

Where we survived the Blitz

Bombed out and with no home at all

Our life was now in bits

Nevertheless we settled in Shropshire

Until peace at last declared

Enjoying children's playful pranks

memorable moments we all shared

I remember well my visits

To the local cinema

When from the back a loud laugh

Would echo out afar

I would turn to my mate and say

My sister is here tonight

I'd know that laugh anywhere

It's as shrill as a strangled kite

Before we left for Egypt

By now a responsible lad

When Jeane was wed to Gordon

I stood in for Dad

Settling down in Rainham

She embraced the Naval life

Which folks will tell you is unique

And not without its strife

Long stretches apart away at sea

Precious moments when ashore

And with a growing family

A post to Singapore

But Jeane never lost her sense of humour

Or her zest for life

With all the problems she would face as a Naval wife

She went into public service

As a Traffic Warden keen

Ticketing cars unlawfully parked

And suffering drivers spleen

In retirement she cared for her husband

Whose health was not so good

But love prevailed until he passed

Her soulmate Gordon Wood

Tough and resolute she battled on

Till she gave her final sigh

Jeane we will all miss you

As we say a fond goodbye

For you we're always my Big Sis

Dependable and caring

Always there at family do's

To see how we were faring

Life will now not be the same

But let's not all feel sad

For you are up there sharing that special laugh

With Gordon, Margaret, Mum and Dad
