I grew up with Gary between 1969 & 1975. Sadly after Gary moved to the Chelmsford area in the mid 70's we lost touch only to reconnect via Twitter halfway through last year. Growing up with Gary, We were virtually inseparable (along with Terry Williams) and I loved him like a brother. We spent many happy times both at primary & secondary school together, playing in the football teams and getting into scrapes together. I loved all the time spent together at his parents' house on Victoria Avenue on Southend-on-Sea seafront and when Gary later moved the short distance up the Golden Mile to The Ship Public House.
The seafront, beach, sea, Kursaal and Southchurch Park were our playgrounds and I fondly recall the laughs we had together. We shared dreams and Gary went on to achieve his in the music business and of course in his brief time with Southend United. I cried my heart out on learning of the passing of such a dear old childhood friend and wonderful character. Gary, you may have physically left this crazy old world but I will carry you in my heart for the rest of my days. I have no doubt you are making them laugh their wings off upstairs and scheming of ways to shake things up in heaven. You truly were a kindred spirit as a lad. I love you to bits, Gary. UP THE SPURS!!
