Our Grandad, Terry was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who was loved by so many. His family and friends meant so much to him, as did he to them. Everybody who had the pleasure of knowing our grandad knows he was such a kind, thoughtful and funny man who loved playing pranks and making others laugh. On one of his many pranks, he used a pin to prick a hole into our mammars water bottle; he then sat laughing to himself as she wondered why water was trickling down her chin. When our Grandad wasn’t playing pranks he could be found down the bottom of the garden pottering around in his shed, feeding the budgies and checking on his ferrets. Our grandad loved to keep busy and was a very hardworking man, he loved the time he used to spend working with his good friends Dave Daniels and Dave Ellis and when he wasn’t working there was always one of his children or grandchildren that needed his help and kept him busy.
Growing up our Grandad loved riding his motorbike and would tell us how he would love to own another one day. He would take our mammar Shirley on the back of it and drive around Kneeton where he would hang out with his sisters Betty, Gill, Silvia, Susan, Jane and Diana along with his dear friend and cousin, Ernie and his good friends Trevor and Roger. He used to love his days in Kneeton with his sisters and his friends and loved his visits to Skegness where the whole village would catch the bus and go out on day trips.
Throughout our Grandad’s life his house was always full of his family and friends, his niece Melanie would often pop over to cut his hair and give him a pamper, which he would always look forward to. Grandad would sit and have a cup of tea whenever we visited, but would often slip of into the living room afterwards to sit in his armchair and watch the chase or blast out some Elvis, who he loved to have a sing and dance to. I’m sure many of you have memories of him sipping on a pint of bitter and perfecting his rock and rolling on the dance floor with our mammar, he would always say “Shirl have you got the right shoes on” before they started. Our grandad loved spending time with the people he cared about and also used to love his Friday nights in the White Lion playing dominoes with his friends Pete, Jeff and Chris.
Somebody so special to our Grandad was our mammar Shirley who he loved with all of his heart. He would always say how he found the best of the best, and he truly did. They hold 52 years of special memories and he loved nothing more than sharing those memories with his children and grandchildren, he loved looking through old photographs and talking about all the mischief they would get up to in their younger days. Our mammar really was grandad’s rock throughout his entire life but especially throughout his later life and the battle he had with his illness. Our grandad was a very strong and optimistic man who was still making jokes right until the very end; however, our mammar was there throughout his good days and his bad days to bring the smile we all know and love, back to his face.
Every single one of us see our selves as so lucky to grow up in such a loving and caring family, our grandads children Alan, Angela, Michelle, Elaine, Linda and John meant the world to him, he loved them so much and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. Even during our grandad’s struggle he would think of them before worrying about himself. In their eyes he really was the best dad they could ever wish for.
So finally, Grandad, its so hard to face the fact that you’re gone, you was there whenever we needed you, but we are glad that you are now at peace and out of pain, its your turn to rest now. We love you so much and will forever cherish the special memories we have all shared with you, we know that when that bright star is shining you are looking down on us, and don’t you worry about your Shirl, we will look after her. We love you Grandad, sleep tight.
