Having received Christmas cards for many years from Richard, we wondered why one hadn't arrived this time ; I am so glad we found this opportunity to say some words about our friend .
I met Richard at Sheffield College of Education in 1964. His strength of character drew me towards him.
He certainly didn't share my passion for sport, but often I changed quickly out of my kit to catch a bus with him, Roger and Dorothy to play chess for the college at pubs and working men's clubs.
He thought I was a very lucky man to have met Janice. 1969 he came down to London and we visited Greenwich Maritime Museum...his passion for history was evident...he was so mortified when he realised that pregnant Janice had followed him around for three hours without complaint!!! A lovely unworldly gentleman.
Having got my degree at Goldsmith's I was delighted when he sought a degree and change of career. He sparkled.
My memories are delightful ones . The car trips to Dovedale with Dorothy and Richard in our old Morris Minor. The Radseal did work!
The warm welcomes at Stapenhill. We will always remember him with great fondness.
