In loving memory of Maurice Carter who sadly passed away at The Royal Blackburn Hospital on 20th January 2017.
Maurice was born in Silsden & was a passionate cobbydaler all his life.
A kind, gentle, quiet man who loved life & his family, was a true gentleman.
In his younger years Maurice played for Silsden football club with his brother Arthur.
Learning to drive in a fire engine whilst serving in the Army & being employed as a part-time fireman in Silsden were proud achievements for him.
Maurice trained as an electrician & worked Silsden in a self-employed capacity, then was employed at Landis Lund in Eastburn.
He lived in Silsden until the age of approx 50 years old, where a change of career following some health issues, took him & his wife Elaine to Keighley, where they operated a green grocery store.
As retirement neared they embarked on a change of direction & decided on various moves, taking them to Skipton, Grassington, Harrogate, Morecambe & Warton near Blackpool.
Maurice enjoyed spending time with his wife, going on long breaks during the winter months, to places such as Cyprus, Spain & Tunisia. Going on cruises in the med was also a favourite past-time.
After his wife passing away in 2009, Maurice came back to Yorkshire to Gills Top residential home in Grassington, then to Barnoldswick & finally a nursing home in Colne.
Maurice was always fond of dogs & indeed the local breed in particular, the Airedale dog of which he had two during his time in Silsden.
Throughout Maurice's travels, he was always proud to say he was originally from Silsden & wished he could return home whenever possible.
Maurice is survived by his daughter Jayne, & family from his late sister Doris, also family members from his wife's side of the family.
