WE remember coming over to England to visit Granny long flight
We remember doing puppet shows especially the three little pigs
We remember stitching the toy owls and octopuses
We remember getting sticky buns from around the corner
We remember granny's patient hands around the back of me teaching me how to knit
We remember granny chatting to anyone she sees
We remember making jellies with Granny and her special technique of cutting the jelly and shining a light through it
We remember going into London as she marches out in front
We remember setting sparklers off inside because it was too cold outside
We remember our stuffed toys making the annual trip to Granny's for their plastic surgery, specially Gorillabanane
We remember the secret pocket she made in my fleece
We remember smoothing her wrinkles out

Martin , Katey and Emma

Some memories from Dylan and his family...

Last time the family travelled to England from Australia, we were so glad we got to visit Aunty Joan. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted by a beautiful big smile and an enveloping cuddle from the very Mrs Tiggywinkly Aunty Joan.
Before we sat down for cups of tea, some chocolate and biscuits, or her famous fish pie Aunty Joan asked us to follow her, so we happily obliged. She handed us lyric sheets and insisted we join in with her rendition of 'Teddy Bear's picnic'. She took us all around her home, through doors I never knew existed, up stairs, through more doors and rooms and finally ended up in her lovely upstairs lounge room where she had presents for the whole family.
Wow!
What an amazing introduction for our daughter Rose, who was nearly 3 at the time, to this family legend who was Aunty Joan! Rose has never forgotten this experience, and neither will Hollie or I.
This kind, exciting, creative lady was an inspiration. Everyone who had the good fortune to meet her fell in love with her. I feel lucky to have had her in my life and that my family had a taste of her magic.
We'll miss you Aunty Joan, but your magical memories will stay with us forever. Thank you.

From Dylan, Hollie, Rose and Jethro.

This is a lovely web page. I was sorry I couldn't be at the memorial service, so it is lovely to see all these photos and read your eulogy. Your Mum would have been so proud of you. The service sheet looked beautiful too. She was a wonderful lady, I know you will miss her.

Quilters poem

I think God is a quilter Who,
with needle and thread
Pieces our world from nothingness
and gives it form instead

I think we see God’s perfect stitches
Textured everywhere
In velvet moss and grainy sand
In silky strands of hair

I think God cuts the pattern
From stuff we’d throw away
And shows us how to use each scrap
In God’s own redeeming way

I think quilts paint to the lessons
God uses just to teach
That our pieces and our remnants
Have kaleidoscopic reach

So in the life we’re living
Odd pieces everywhere
Lets give them to the Quilter
To work into his masterpiece
With extra loving care…

A tribute to Joan
On the table a mountain of materials - different textures -
multiple colours - some patterned - some plain: add to this some sewing silks and sequins, buttons and beads, also gold and silver threads, all dumped haphazardly -
surely in dire need of sorting! Enter an artist's eye - an embroiderer's skill,
one who sees endless potential and wondrous possibilities for this untidy assortment:
and, what then have we?
Winsome wonders, simply waiting to find expression!
Dear Joan's perceptive eye could make exquisite order out of seeming chaos, as her mind instantly flooded with inspiration and delight!
Deft and skilful fingers forge unsurpassable, beautiful creations for all of us to appreciate and treasure -
treasure that has bequeathed to us a heritage
for future generations to wonder at, all evoking memories of a much-loved, very special woman!
She leaves beautifully embroidered symbols offered for worship in our Church -pictures and collages for family and friends to keep and wonder at -
characterful dolls and toys for children of all ages to admire and play with -each serving as motivation for admirers to attempt to follow in her footsteps.
This is how we remember you, dear Joan,
a patient and inspirational teacher of your craft. You were in every way unique - one of a kind -
bringing intimations of heaven down to us on earth.
Now, at last, you're free, dear friend, to relish endless days
of joyous creativity expressing perfect praise; re-united with dear Stephen, and welcomed by our Lord,
as you blend boundless beauty with harmonious harpsichord!
with love from Sally Morris
