I didn't really know Joe directly but, through Hilary, it felt like I did. He was a fountain of knowledge and I was in awe of his impressive array of domestic talents ! I still use Joe's Yorkshire pudding recipe ( works every time) and follow his tips to keep my pots clean. I was always interested to hear Joe's wise opinions and views. A particular memory is when I admired a gorgeous play suit that Alex was wearing as a baby and Hilary told me that Joe had made it. Within the week I was presented with a similar outfit for my own daughter that Joe had kindly made from the spare material. What a special, clever and kind man he was!
