My memories of John go back to the early 50's playing table tennis at the Rotherham Boy's Club. He and his dear wife Patricia moved to Canada, I think in 66, I followed in 1967.

They kindly accommodated my wife and I for the period that it took us to find an apartment of our own. Such generosity would be hard to find in today's hard world.

John was a man blessed with inordinate charisma, talent and obvious humor. I fished with him in Lake Erie, he was a lousy fisherman, but his favorite saying was..."We're not eating them are we?"

Sometime in the 70's I saw him once more, since he left Canada to return to the UK, there was no change, his effervescent spirit still very obvious, his humor still evident, his generosity still there to a fault.

Deep and heartfelt condolences to Pat and the family.

Rest well my old friend.

  • Hi there. Sorry to hear this news. I worked with John in Rotherham at PJ Andrews New world Studios in the 70’s. I was around 16 years old. He taught me so much about everything. I knew the family too. Living on Aldred Street. Best wishes from me here. RIP John.
