In loving memory of Peter Winton who sadly passed away on 8th December 2016.
His battle with a brain tumour was mercifully brief and he was able to be at home with family where he peacefully passed with very little suffering.
A loving, caring, thoughtful and devoted husband and best friend to Virginia. Her soulmate and rock over the last 42 years of marriage.
A loving, supportive, father to Holly and Luke, providing an excellent role model to guide them in their lives. He was also a wonderful father in law to both Steve and Indi, he holds a special place in their hearts.
A kind and caring, warm and welcoming man to his two Grandchildren, Phoebe and Tobias. Their memories of their 'Popsie' will be full of love and laughter.
Peter always had a twinkle in his eye, a kind word of advice or support and a smile that could melt ice at fifty paces.
His life’s work as a Solicitor brought him much enjoyment, he passed retirement age 4 years ago but would not put down the gauntlet as he would miss his work too much. Much respected by his clients and colleagues, he was a reliable source of advice, ready with a kind smile. Always had the time to chat about everyday things and take a personal interest in the ones he worked with. On meeting clients at work, his catch phrase "Come on in!" which was always accompanied with a smile and gesture towards the meeting room, could be heard throughout the office. Some existing clients will still remember the days he started out in his law career back in Helston, Cornwall.
Peter filled his spare time with the company of others, he was a great social man, he excelled in the public eye being able to charm, entertain and tell a good joke. Having spent many years as an active participant and member of The Round Table, Rotary Club and in more recent years The Freemasons, he derived much pleasure and made many many new friends.
Peter and Virginia have lived in the same family home for the last 34 years, a place where the door was always open, the tonic always cold and the BBQ ready to light. His friends and neighbours will remember the good times held at the Wintons where Peter and Virginia made the perfect team, one in the kitchen creating a feast for a king and one chatting and barbequing with the obligatory chilled beer.
Over the years another one of Peter and Virginia's joys was camping locally and on the continent, once the children started globetrotting, they also travelled the world enjoying many areas in Europe, and going as far as Nepal and Costa Rica. Once the tent was in storage, Pete took on the role of boats captain and spent many hours tootling up and down the Thames with the family having special quality time.
In later years a new sense of adventure was born in caravanning and so they invested in a large caravan (also fondly known as Wintonville) to tour the countryside and coasts, together with their beloved Golden Retrievers.
Peter Winton was a man who touched the hearts and minds of all the ones he met, from brief exchanges with the lady on the checkout till, to the lifelong friends and family who will never forget that smile. He will remain in the hearts of the family forever with many fond memories. God Bless.
