In loving memory of Terrence Charlwood who sadly passed away on 24th November 2016
Terry was a highly intelligent gentle person who was devoted to the love of his life, Elsie.
Terry Charlwood was born, in Cranford, West London on 08 February 1941, the youngest brother of Roy, Violet, David, Sid and Peggy (Margaret)
Terry went to Cranford Junior School passed his 11+ exams and later graduated from Isleworth Grammar School, he then started working at Sargrove Electronics, Winston Electronics
In 1962 after a couple of years courtship Terry married the love of his life Elsie. They both lived with Terry's mum for a while as they had a great affection for her. In 1963 their first child Gerry was born. Soon after this the young family moved to St Austell, Cornwall where in 1964, due to the unexpected premature labour and a mischievous paper boy (who was given a fiver to get the doctor, who then scarpered) Terry delivered his second son (Keith)
In 1967 Terry, Elsie and their two young children emmigrated to Perth Western Australia, Terry continued his career in electronics working for Stan Tuff electronics and later Telecom. In those days West Australia was an undeveloped land, and Terry was at the forefront of providing telecommunications to the many isolated stations and towns.
During his time in Australia, Terry became involved with the Cub Scout association, at one stage being Akela of one pack, whilst assisting at another. Many great holidays were spent camping, building rope bridges or rafts at various scout camps. Terry was committed to sharing his practical and problem solving skills. Many boys, now men have Terry to thank for their abilities to design, fix and build things. His own sons use skills everyday that their Dad taught them, and like Terry they will give anything a go.
In 1983 Terry and Elsie returned to the UK settling in Risegate, Lincolnshire. He quickly found a local , the black horse' and made some mates to have a drink and a chat with. Later moving to Spalding, during this time Terry worked as the Chief Engineer for H Hargarve.
Together Terry and Elsie travelled throughout UK, enjoying visits to graveyards , sharing the history of the different places, and marvelling at the natural beuty of the the countryside. Terry enjoyed his work as chief engineer for H Hargraves. He took great pride in keeping the machinery going and his colleagues safe.
Retirement day came and Terry finally had enough time for all the things he enjoyed doing. Terry and Elsie were avid readers and working together happily completed crosswords. He was rightly proud of his vegetable and strawberry garden. He enjoyed his daily battles against the bugs and the weeds, and then eating his own harvest.
In 2014 Elsie passed away, whilst it was hard, Terry had the strength to move on spending his time renovating the kitchen and building a conservatory.
He renewed his love of Australia to attend his sons 50th birthday, later his Grand Daughter's wedding, later still to meet his Great Granddaughter. This last trip only in May was very special, as not only did he meet Pippa but he got to see his two sons together again.
Whilst his family feel the loss and are very saddened , they are grateful for the care he was given, that he is no longer in pain, but most of all take comfort that Terry and Elsie are together again.
Thank you
Keith Charlwood
