Margaret Ann Smith (7 Feb 1937 - 15 Nov 2016)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Margaret Smith who sadly passed away on 15th November 2016. Mrs Margaret Ann Smith, known affectionately as Ann, was born in Portsmouth on the 7th February 1937. Her parents were Ivy and Ralph Brunton. Ann shared her upbringing with her elder sister Gina and now late brothers Gerry and Tom. During which, they had to move to Stubcroft Farm near Chichester to escape the Blitz. Gina and Ann remained close throughout life and loved to visit one another when they could.
Ann attended local schools. She grew up and married Albert, known as Robbie. They were keen ballroom dancers and they had a good family life. They became the loving parents of their son Ian, also known as Robbie.
Robbie junior was brought up mainly by his mum, as his father was away serving in The Royal Navy. In the 70’s the family moved to Harrogate, North Yorkshire where Gina had already settled with her Husband John and their children David and Lesley. The family did a lot of socialising together and had some fun times. Ann and her husband enjoyed their gardening and drives out.
Sadly, Robbie senior died in 1982. Later, In 1996 Ann re-married Mr Alan Smith. They used to enjoy their days out to the coast; later moved to Filey. When Alan sadly became ill, Ann became his carer. She was always a compassionate and caring person.
It was said (with a smile of course) that “she could be a little stubborn and opinionated at times too!”
In her retirement she took up a flower arranging, attending a course. She loved her flowers. Ann was a “Home Bird” too. Five years ago Ann moved over to Derby to be a bit closer to her son and family. Robbie and his wife Annette visited every Sunday for a coffee and a chat. Annette was the daughter that she never had and enjoyed their chats normally at her son’s expense.
She will be sadly missed by all of us, but not forgotten. save a space up there for us mum. Love Ian & Annette x x
