In loving memory of Lois Alma Moore who sadly passed away on 2nd November 2016
Lois Alma Derrick was born on 12th March 1938 in Breaston to George & Jessie Derrick. She was the eldest of two children, having a younger brother, Trevor. She was named sfter her maternal grandmother but was always known as Alma.
She attended the local school in Breaston & excelled at cookery & netball. As she was a tall girl, she was also a very good high jumper.
St Michael's church featured a lot in her life. She was a Sunday School teacher there & this was where she later married. She had a son, Martin (born in 1958) who was adopted. She married Derek William Moore on her birthday in 1960. I was born in 1962 followed by Neil in 1964.
Alma worked in retail until illness struck her down 41 years ago & resulted in surgery (this surgery was to lead to her recent ill health) She 'retired' & became a housewife. She was an amazing cook.
I married Martin Sandford in 1985 & presented her with her first grandchild, Rebekah, in 1987. She looked after Rebekah from 6 months when I went back to work. Ruth arrived in 1989. She had a wonderful bond with both her
granddaughters.
She had a brief encounter with cancer - her positive attitude & Faith helped her through it
In 2001, our world was shattered when Neil died suddenly aged 36. It affected us all deeply but Mum in particular took it really badly. In 2003, Martin made contact & we met up. He has been a big part of our lives ever since, sharing holidays & family events. We enjoyed a fabulous family holiday on the Isle of Wight in 2014 - this was to be her final holiday
In 2015, she became a great grandmother. She thought the world of Luna Rose who was actually born on what would have been Jessie's 100th birthday.
A big part of Alma's life was the Breaston Elder Citizens Club which she took her mother to when George passed away. She became a member & eventually a committee member, practically running the club for the last twenty years or so. The members enjoyed trips out & a varied entertainment schedule
Two years ago, she became ill & her health deteriorated over the months. She was hospitalised times since May & it became apparent last Tuesday that we may not have her for Christmas. She died the following morning.
To sum up, Alma was a dutiful daughter, a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother & a dear friend to many. We miss you so much ???xx
