In loving memory of Marilyn Yates Rayson who sadly passed away on 23rd October 2016
Marilyn Rayson (nee Lee) was born in Carlton, Nottingham on 8 April 1939 to Garnet and Joyce Lee. She had a younger sister, Sharon.
Marilyn met Denis (Snowy) Rayson in 1957 and they married in 1959. They honeymooned in Guernsey where one of the Raysons had settled after serving there in WW2. They loved it so much, that they decided to move there. Their daughter Dawn was born there in 1960 and Marilyn assisted Denis at Studio Story, a local photographers office where he worked as a professional photographer.
In 1966 they decided to return to Nottingham and settled in Cotgrave where Denis worked as a miner. Their daughter Diane was born in Cotgrave in 1968, followed by son James in 1970. Marilyn assisted at the local infant school as dinner lady mid day supervisor.
In 1971, the family decided to emigrate to South Africa and settled at a mine called Arnot, near Middleburg and Witbank, however they found it very difficult to settle and decided to return to Cotgrave in 1972.
Their final child, Jonathan was born in 1974, and in 1975, the family decided to return to South Africa, but settled in Durnacol, Natal, near Newcastle and Dundee.
Marilyn and Denis became active members of the Full Gospel Church in Dundee and spent many happy hours in the company of the congregation and made life long friends.
Marilyn was also known as the local agony aunt for the local youth population of Durnacol and her door was always open to give them advice and to get them out of scrapes and trouble! I am sure that all of the young people who knew her would agree she was really special.
In 1986 after much soul searching, they decided to return to Nottingham as their surviving parents were not in the best of health and they wanted to be near, them.
Marilyn worked at the Queens Medical Centre until 1996 taking early retirement due to ill health.
Marilyn and Denis were blessed with several Grand children, John, Lee, Charlotte, Andrew, Joshua, Anthony and Kallum. About 2 months before her passing, she was overjoyed to hear that a great grandchild was on the way, fathered by Andrew.
They were active members of Carlton Pentecostal Church.
In 1997, Marilyns sister passed away suddenly, followed by Denis mother Clara, then Marilyns and Denis son James, under tragic circumstances in 1998. Her own mother, Joyce, followed not long after. In 2003, sadly her husband Denis passed away. After all the loved ones passing, it was not easy for Marilyn as she was a family orientated person and loved her family around her.
She managed to stay in her house that held so many happy memories next door to her daughter Diane until 2015, when due to danger to her health it was deemed safer for her to live where she would receive care and she moved to a care/nursing home.
Marilyn passed away after a short illness on 23 October 2016 and will be really missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral to be held on Monday 14 November at Bramcote Crematorium at 12.30. Funeral procession to leave 129 Brewsters road at 11.40am. We have arranged the double decker bus from Lyms to transport mourners who would like to travel this way. Please let Diane or Dawn know if you wish to do this so we can ensure we have plenty of space. After the service the bus will drop off people at Carlton Pentecostal Diner for the funeral tea or return guests to Brewsters road to collect their vehicles to make their own way to the tea.
Family flowers only, donations in lieu to Dementia Uk, either at the funeral (box will be available), via the link on this page or at Lymms office.
For those of you wishing to pay last respects, Marilyn will be in a private chapel of rest at AW Lymns on Thursday 10 November from 2pm-5pm, Friday 11 November from 9am-5pm and Saturday 12 November from 9am-12 noon.
